The following appeared in a memofrom the vice president of a food distribution company with food storage warehouses in several cities.

"Recently, we signed a contract with the Fly-Away Pest Control Company to provide pest control services at our fast-food warehouse in Palm City, but last month we discovered that over $20,000 worth of food there had been destroyed by pest damage. Meanwhile, the Buzzoff Pest Control Company, which we have used for many years, continued to service our warehouse in Wintervale, and last month only $10,000 worth of the food stored there had been destroyed by pest damage. Even though the price charged by Fly-Away is considerably lower, our best means of saving money is to return to Buzzoff for all our pest control services."



Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.

In the memo, the vice president of a food distribution company concludes that the best means of saving money is to return to Buzzoff for all the pest control services. The reasons, the president points out, is that the warehouse which pest control services are provided by F company damaged more food than P company at the meanwhile, statement that is in fact questionable, however.It still enjoys many questions as follows to be solved.



In the first place, the manager overlooks this question: whether the worth mentioned above truly reflect the pest control between the two companies. The different worth of damaged food may due to the different varieties of food stored in the warehouse in Palm City or in Wintervale.If the unit price of the food in Palm City’s warehouse is much higher than Wintervale’s, the financial damage of the former caused by insect pests will be greater than the latter, even though the numbers or the proportion of damaged food of Palm City’s warehouse is slightly lower than the Wintervale’s. It is insufficient to say that Fly-away company has a low effect on pest control according to such simple data.



In the second place, the manager says that only $10000 worth of the food stored in Wintervale’s warehouse had been destroyed by pest damage.This sentence caused another question: whether there are some other elements causing this consequence.For example, last month is not the breeding peak of insect pests and the food stored there has a well resistance to insects. Obviously, in these situations, it won’t court the outbreaks of insects and caused too much damaged.Furthermore, although there is a high proportion of the food damaged by pest, there is not much damage done if the kind of food is a cheap variety.



Last, the manager suggests that all the pest control services should be returned to Buzzoff in order to save money.However, several aspects are questionable in this suggestion.First, the manager depends too much on the simple date and ignores the other elements caused the variance among different places.Second, we cannot deduce that the pest control services which provided by Buzzoff Pest Control Company is suitable for any warehouse, even though the effect is better than other. For instance, it is wasteful for those warehouses which have not so serious insect damage to use the expensive services.And third, it is an arbitrary decision that the manager takes the B company as the best means of saving money.There is no information indicating that the B company is the best pest control company in his country.

关于这个题目的提纲，我的想法是，1.这个数据是不是真的反映出虫害的程度，没有跟成本的比较，这个数字不具有说服力。2.即使真的是反映的虫害情况，但是否能直接进行对比，两地情况不一样（比如天气，地理位置等），食物种类不一样。3.即使真的一个比另一个好，是不是一定是最好的，这个需要综合考虑。
