可是看manhattan里面关于mansion的例题，即便两个mansion前面都有the，you cannot be sure about whether the modifier is essential or not either.
Still confused and would go for using "that" in the sentence since "dress that was torn at one of the seams" really identifies the PARTICULAR dress instead of other dresses.
