这个题我第一次做也错了，其实它就是考逻辑主语的问题。题干中include后面的内容要与the production of new brain cells形成包含关系，即同类事物。
（A）the brain growing in mice when placed in a stimulating environment or neurons increasing in canaries that
include后面是brain和neurons，这和新细胞的形成不属于一类事物。另外，when placed省略了主语，那么它的逻辑主语是主句的主语，这里错误地修饰了examples。
 (B) mice whose brains grow when they are placed in a stimulating environment or canaries whose neurons increase when they
include后面是mice和canaries，和新细胞形成差得更远。另外，they分别就近指代brains和neurons，逻辑错误，应该指代mice和canaries。
 (C) mice's brains that grow when they are placed in a stimulating environment or canaries' neurons that increase when they
include后面是mice's brains和canaries' neurons，和新细胞的形成不属于一类事物。另外，they的指代错误同B。

正确选项。include后面的brain growth和an increase in neurons与新细胞的形成属同类事物。（脑细胞的增长，神经细胞的增加。这题的难点也在于此，不太好理解）。that做限定修饰mice和canaries。即放在刺激性环境下的老鼠和学新歌的金丝雀，逻辑正确。

这题我也有疑问，我觉得最正确的应该是E，可是brain growth 应该是和an increase并列的，为什么前者之前没有一个定冠词

补充一点：GMAT中有个小规律，就是限定性定语从句一般用that或者介词+which来引导，非限定性定语从句用which引导。当然不是绝对，还是要具体题目具体分析。

可能是固定搭配吧，我看GMAT里所有包含"increase in sth."这个结构的句子，increase前面都有冠词或者any。
另外，growth是不可数名词，increase在这个用法里是可数的，所以可以一个加冠词一个不加。

考古贴了，一个疑问，这个句子的主语难道不应该是examples吗？如果是production的话，include没理由不加s用单数形式吧？

所以我的理解是为了说明example，说brain growth虽然有点蹩脚，但直接点明了一个动作，比直接说mice或brain要好，因为例子要说明的不是这两样东西，而是growth和increase。排除BC

when placed确实比较ugly，因为主语无论如何也没法和Mice对应，变成了把brain“直接”放到environment（毛骨悚然=_=||）不合逻辑，这样就排除掉了AD。
