The speaker disagrees with the statement in the passage that in order to make his life seem more interesting and exciting, many events in Chevalier’s memoir were invented.

In the first place, the speaker says that the fact that Chevalier borrowed money from merchants doesn’t mean that Chevalier was poor. Chevalier was a wealthy man who was obsessed in parties and gambling. To get the money needed to hold this kind of activities, he had to sell his property. However, as we all know that the transaction from property to money needs time, Chevalier had to borrow money from other when he could not get his money on time.

Secondly, the speaker also figures out why the conversations between Chevalier and Voltaire, a famous writer, recorded in his memoir are accurate. In fact, Chevalier wrote a note after their conversation and he carried this note for many years. When he was writing his memoir, he referred to the note. What’s more, Chevalier often consulted to his motes and journal during the writing of his memoir. Therefore, we can see that the information in his memoir is believable.

Last but not least, the speaker rejects the claim that Chevalier escaped from the prison in Venice by bribing the politically well-connected friends there rather than by make a hole in the ceiling and climbing through the roof. According to the speaker, at that time, although other prisoners knew someone in Venice who was more powerful than Chevalier’s friends, they couldn’t leave prison by bribing. Another evidence, which proves that the description in Chevalier’s memoir is true, is that the Venice government document said that after the prison break of Chevalier, the ceiling in his room had to be repaired.

In conclusion, the content in the memoir of Chevalier is real.

Contrast to the opinion stated in the passage that pollution causes the number of sea otters declines, the speaker suggests that the predators should take the responsibility.

Firstly, the speaker points out that if the pollution kills the sea otters, we should be able to find the dead bodies of sea otters on the beach of Alaska. However, in fact, we can’t. Therefore, the pollution hypothesis is rejected and the failure of people to find the dead bodies of sea otters is consistent with the theory of predators. As we all know, if the sea otters have been eaten by their predators, there is no way for us to see the dead bodies on the beach..

Secondly, according to the speaker, since whales have disappeared by human hunters, the orcas are forced to change their diet to survive so that they begin to eat small sea animals, such as sea lions, seals and sea otters. This information explains the season why the number of sea lions and seals decline as well and offers another support for the theory of predators. On the contrary, the passage states that the pollution contributes to the decrease of the number of sea lions and seals.

Last but not least, the speaker also says that the uneven decline in the number of sea otters is better explained by the predation theory than the pollution theory. From the speaker’s lecture, we realize that the distribution of orcas is uneven. So, if the orcas live in the region that is easy for them to access the sea otters, in that region, the number of sea otters will decline. On the other hand, since the orcas are too large to live in the shallow and rocky sea, in that area, the number of sea otters doesn’t decline.

In conclusion, the speaker thinks that it is the predators that cause the population of sea otters decline.

Many people have encountered the situation that their friends have difficulties in passing an examination. At this time, some people suggest them to turn to a tutor for help, others, if they happen to good at this subject, will help their friends on their own. Then which method is better? It is a topic that has aroused a wide discussion and has not reached a conclusion. When it comes to me, I am in favor of the second opinion for the following reasons.

In the first place, people should admit that we understand our friends much better than the tutor and we know how to communicate with them in the most efficient way. Therefore, it is much easier for us the find out the weak points in our friends knowledge in a much shorter time than the tutors. What’s more, the deep understanding between us and our friends enables us to come up with a way that makes sure our friends are able to grasp the knowledge explained by us more quickly, easily and thoroughly. Using my own story as an example, when I was in high school, a chapter in my physic book was too hard for me to understand that I could not utilize the principles and formulas in that chapter to solve the problems. Before the final examination, I asked me friend, a boy who was good at physics for help. He explained that chapter in a much more shallow way than the teacher and assisted me overcame this huge obstacle in my physic study. This case is not rare in reality, in fact, sometime a person who has talent in a certainacademic area can make the knowledge much more easier for their friends to learn.

Another point we cannot ignore is that when people learn from their friends, they are more willing to ask questions and more relax. Under this condition, they feel comfortable to discuss with us and if they still cannot understand a certain problem, they will keep asking until they finally figure out. By contrast, our friends may feel nervous when they go to ask the tutors for help and it is not a good mental condition for them to understand the explanation of the tutors. What ‘s worse, sometimes, they may pretend they have already got the whole idea of that knowledge, although actually they have not , in order not to leave a bad impression on the tutors that they are not smart. According to a survey, over 80% students show that the main reason that they prefer to ask their friends for help when they have difficulties in their study is that they are afraid of their tutors and they are under great pressure when they are asking their tutors questions.

Of course, people should admit that asking tutors for help is a good choice as well. Sometimes, people can get some valuable inspirations of their knowledge from their tutors. However, compared with getting help from friends, asking tutors still has some disadvantages.

In short, it is much better for our friends to ask us for help rather than to turn to a tutor, when they are facing the danger than they may fail in a certain examination.

Contrast to the opinion stated in the passage that pollution causes the number of sea otters declines, the speaker suggests that the predators should take the responsibility.(开头简洁流畅,无懈可击!)

Firstly, the speaker points out that if the pollution kills the sea otters, we should be able to find the dead bodies of sea otters on the beach of Alaska. However, in fact, we can’t.(读着倒是挺顺的,不过我觉得应该还是要以prof的口吻来表述,所以不知道这个样说we合适不合适...) Therefore, the pollution hypothesis is rejected and the failure of people to find the dead bodies of sea otters is consistent with the theory of predators. As we all know, if the sea otters have been eaten by their predators, there is no way for us to see the dead bodies on the beach..(感觉下划线好像两句讲的是一个意思?)

Secondly, according to the speaker, since whales have disappearedby(可以这样用吗?是不是by应该改成because of?)  human hunters, the orcas are forced to change their diet to survive so that they begin to eat small sea animals, such as sea lions, seals and sea otters. This information explains the season(reason) why the number of sea lions and seals decline as well and offers another support for the theory of predators. On the contrary, the passage states that the pollution contributes to the decrease of the number of sea lions and seals(我觉得加个as well更好哦).

Last but not least, the speaker also says that the uneven decline in the number of sea otters is better explained by the predation theory than the pollution theory. From the speaker’s lecture, we realize that the distribution of orcas is uneven. So, if the orcas live in the region that is easy for them to access the sea otters, in that region(感觉和前面的有点重复了...), the number of sea otters will decline. On the other hand, since the orcas are too large to live in the shallow and rocky sea(areas?!), in that area, the number of sea otters doesn’t decline.

In conclusion, the speaker thinks that it is the predators that cause the population of sea otters decline.(我看小鹤鹤写的最后总结是两方面都写到了...感觉这样只写一个方面有点片面,请霏霏斟酌~)

What ‘s worse, sometimes, they may pretend they have already got the whole idea of that knowledge, although actually they have not , in order not to leave a bad impression on the tutors that they are not smart. (我觉得霏霏的思路真的好棒!)According to a survey, over 80% students show that the main reason that they prefer to ask their friends for help when they have difficulties in their study is that they are afraid of their tutors and they are under great pressure when they are asking their tutors questions.(例证用得也恰到好处!再赞一个!)

Of course, people should admit that asking tutors for help is a good choice as well. Sometimes, people can get some valuable inspirations of their knowledge from their tutors. However, compared with getting help from friends, asking tutors still has some disadvantages.

(霏霏的作文实在是太好了!最后还想探讨一个小问题,我觉得题目中说的是friend找“你”寻求帮助,所以在文章中写ask me for help是不是比us要好一些呢?)
