Many people have encountered the situation that their friends have difficulties in passing an examination. At this time, some people suggest them to turn to a tutor for help, others, if they happen to good at this subject, will help their friends on their own. Then which method is better? It is a topic that has aroused a wide discussion and has not reached a conclusion. When it comes to me, I am in favor of the second opinion for the following reasons.
In the first place, people should admit that we understand our friends much better than the tutor and we know how to communicate with them in the most efficient way. Therefore, it is much easier for us the find out the weak points in our friends knowledge in a much shorter time than the tutors. What’s more, the deep understanding between us and our friends enables us to come up with a way that makes sure our friends are able to grasp the knowledge explained by us more quickly, easily and thoroughly. Using my own story as an example, when I was in high school, a chapter in my physic book was too hard for me to understand that I could not utilize the principles and formulas in that chapter to solve the problems. Before the final examination, I asked me friend, a boy who was good at physics for help. He explained that chapter in a much more shallow way than the teacher and assisted me overcame this huge obstacle in my physic study. This case is not rare in reality, in fact, sometime a person who has talent in a certainacademic area can make the knowledge much more easier for their friends to learn.
Another point we cannot ignore is that when people learn from their friends, they are more willing to ask questions and more relax. Under this condition, they feel comfortable to discuss with us and if they still cannot understand a certain problem, they will keep asking until they finally figure out. By contrast, our friends may feel nervous when they go to ask the tutors for help and it is not a good mental condition for them to understand the explanation of the tutors. What ‘s worse, sometimes, they may pretend they have already got the whole idea of that knowledge, although actually they have not , in order not to leave a bad impression on the tutors that they are not smart. According to a survey, over 80% students show that the main reason that they prefer to ask their friends for help when they have difficulties in their study is that they are afraid of their tutors and they are under great pressure when they are asking their tutors questions.
Of course, people should admit that asking tutors for help is a good choice as well. Sometimes, people can get some valuable inspirations of their knowledge from their tutors. However, compared with getting help from friends, asking tutors still has some disadvantages.
In short, it is much better for our friends to ask us for help rather than to turn to a tutor, when they are facing the danger than they may fail in a certain examination.
