key's B

我觉得这里的gap存在于imposing meaning on a work和writer's intentions之间。B说的是facts about the interpreter,文中好像没有提到呀。

为什么C和D不对呢?

This is an interesting question.

The argument says "... so interpretations need not consider the writer's intentions".  But C says "A writer's intensions are relevant to a valid interpretation of the writer's book".  Obviously C is contradict to the argument, and therefore is not an assumption the author relies on.

The argument never touches the issue whether the true intentions of the writer can be known to a critic, therefore, D is not relevant.

Now try deny test on B.  Deny B, we get "A meaning imposed on a literary work does not reflect facts about the interpreter."  If so, the argument, "Any interpretation of a literary work tells more about the critic than about the writer" would fall apart – there won’t be much to reflect about the critic.  Therefore, B is a necessary assumption and the best answer.

原来这个interpreter=critic,懂了,谢谢!

Spot the question type: Necessary Assumption

Core of the argument:

Regardless of the interpretations are relevant to a literally work our not, it must reflects more about the critic than about writer.

Well, then apparently, the necessary assumption is - the interpretation must be relevant to the interpreter.

Let's see the answers.

A. After negating it, it only does say that you can tell whether it is possible to tell the differences between the valid interpretations or not. It does not even touch the core of the argument.

B. After negating it, if it does not reflects the fact about the interpreter, then how could you conclude that any interpretation of literary works tells more about the critic than about the writer? Correct answer.

C. After negating it, Whether it is relevant or not does not prove the fact that it does tell more about the interpreter or does not tell more.

D. Even it can be known, we can still either more about the critic or not be able to know more about the critic.

E. It does n to really relevant to the argument.
