The reading and listening passage discuss that whether salvage logging is beneficial to both a damaged forest and to the economy. The writer is confident about these benefits, which, however, is contradicted by the lecturer.

To begin with, the writer asserts that salvage logging removes the remains of dead trees and makes room for fresh growth. Conversely, the lecturer casts doubt about it. According to her, it is the decomposition of those dead trees that provides the soil with rich nutrients.  Thus, these dead trees promise a more nutritious condition for fresh trees to grow.

Moreover, the lecturer controverts the idea given by the author that salvage logging helps minimize the dangers of insect infestation and contributes to the health of the forest. To illustrate it, the lecturer presents a case of spruce trees. This kind of tree has been living with the spruce beetle near a hundred years without suffering any serious healthy problem. Besides, the lecturer also mentions that the dead tree as well offers space for birds and some good insects.

In addition, the lecturer challenges the point that salvage logging has economic benefits. As far as she concerned, the project requires some vehicles such as helicopter which is too expensive to maintain. Furthermore, additional jobs cannot be created for local residents since the project needs more experienced outsiders who have received professional training for the job.

To sum up, the writer stands for the salvage logging because of its positive influences on both forest and economy, yet the lecturer believes that its disadvantages outweigh the advantages..

Nowadays, a soaring number of residents show concerns over the place that makes people take better care of their family members. Some believe that urban areas could provide higher quality of life, others otherwise place considerable emphasis on the comfortable environment of the suburban. And I am inclined to vote for the urban areas, which makes people take good care of their family members.

First of all, it is conspicuous and ubiquitous that transportations of urban areas provide greater convenience for residents. Specifically, with the development of economy and technology, city residents are having more accesses to public transportations such as public buses, subways and taxis, which make it possible for people to reach any places free from worrying about hazards of accidents. For example, the parents no longer need to concern about the safety of their children on their way to school. Additionally, the old will be more convenient to buy commodities for the family in the supermarkets with the help of public transportations .

Moreover, the urban area as well promise good health and make citizens enjoy better life. To take the hospital as a case, since people live in town, opportunity is slight that an individual can be easily cured while suffering from a severe disease. Last year, my ancle, who lives in the countryside, caught a heavy lung disease and he failed to be cured as no professional hospital was available at his place. Thus, my parents picked him up to the city and there he surmounted the disease under the meticulous care of doctors and nurses. There, we come to witness that people could be looked after well in the urban.

Admittedly, I concede that some people may also stress value on the serene environment within the suburban areas. With little transportations and construction projects, the suburban areas certainly enjoy a tranquil and clean atmosphere which is beneficial to people's physical and mental health. Nonetheless, it reveals that people will be less convenient to go out of the village and own few access to health centers. Besides, currently, the urban areas have brought in the concept of "peace in the urban", which advocates people's living places being less exposed to noises and air pollution. In this situation, we can anticipate that family members could received better care in cities.

In a nutshell, considering all analyses above, we can confidently come to a conclusion that it is urban areas where people embrace higher quality of life with the convenient transportations and advanced medical treatment.

The reading passage comes up with three measures to stop the spread of the cane toad in Australia. The lecturer, however, casts doubt on these measures and she believes that these measures may cause environmental disaster.

To begin with, the lecturer questions the method to prevent the spread of the toad by building a national fence. Since many young toad and their eggs are contained in rivers and streams, they are easily carried across the national fence with the water wave of those rivers and streams.

Moreover, the writer asserts that volunteers play a vital role to capture and destroy the toads, which is contradicted by the lecturer. According to the lecturer, since many volunteers receive little training, chances are that they could falsely kill the native Australian frogs. Besides, it is difficult to distinguish the young toads from native frogs.

Furthermore, the writer challenges the use of the disease-causing virus to control the cane toad populations. She holds that since some amphibian species come from other continents and the virus may be harmful to them. Additionally, the South America once used this method to control a species, yet it turned out that the elimination of this species exerted negative influence on other species in the ecological system.

To sum up, the writer recommends three solutions to limit the toad population, while the lecturer opposes them and worries about the possible consequences brought by those solutions.

In contemporary society, residents are placing more concerns over the success in a new job. Some people stand for the adaptation to a new circumstance, while others also emphasis the magnitude of knowledge within this field. The information I have collected over last few years leads me to believe that the knowledge outweigh the former notation in one's success.

First of all, the mastery of certain knowledge of the new job renders a person the permission to the company. Currently, with fiercer competition in human source market, it is the excellent knowledge that helps a person stand out during the job interview. To take my gregarious brother Tom as an example, he majored in mechanic engineering in the university and he did well in his courses. Undoubtedly, he made it to enter the William corporation, which enjoys high prestige in China, due to his preeminent performance in the interview. In contrast, his classmate Jenny who could easily adjust herself to any new environment failed to get a job, since her academical grades were poor. Here, we figure it out that it is the knowledge that promises one's entrance to get a new job.

Moreover, the fabulous working knowledge plays an essential role in one's promotion in the job. No matter how good a man is to accommodate himself to a new place and surrounding strangers, his promotion opportunities are related closely with his own knowledge of the job. An investigation conducted by China Daily unveils that over 85% of verdant employees who get promotions in their new job largely depend on their firm possession of major knowledge. Specifically, some enterprenuers confess that they appreciate employees who own better knowledge instead of adaptation competence, as everyone could develope an ability of adjustment via special training course, yet the accumulation of knowledge, which is a painstaking process, takes long period of time.

Admittedly, I concede, to some degree, that adaptation counts in one's way to success in a new job. Since a person comes to a new position, he may feel unfamiliar about it. For instance, he does not know every member in the team and faces some quandaries to communicate with them. But this brilliant man know much about the tasks and he is willing to help his fellow workers out with his knowledge. Chances are that this unaccommodated mire is conquered as time goes by. In this way, the adaptation could not be put too much value on one's success compared to knowledge.

To sum up, considering all analyses above, it is time to applaud the significance of knowledge demanded by the job, for the mastery of knowledge permits one to enter the company, to get promoted and to build human-circle. Only if we master a good hand of knowledge could we go further in a company and ultimately achieve success in the career.

9.9 综合The reading and listening passage discussthat whether salvage logging is beneficial to both a damaged forest and to theeconomy. The writer is confident about these benefits, which, however, iscontradicted by the lecturer.

The reading and listening passage discuss the topic of science of archaeology in Britain. The writer claims that the archaeology was confronted with serious problems for most of the twentieth country which, however, is contradicted by the lecturer.

To begin with, the writer asserts that many precious artifacts were destroyed by construction projects. Conversely, the speaker questions about it. She contends that construction projects generally need be examined meticulously by archaeologists. And then a certain plan had been made together by the local officials and builders before the construction was allowed.

Furthermore, the lecturer casts doubt on the point that many archaeologists received inadequate financial support. To explain it, the lecturer presents a fact that it is the construction companies that paid for the initial examinations and the following states. Thus, the financial support from those companies was a new powerful source for archaeologists.

Last but not least, the lecturer challenges the perspective that people faced hardship to find a career within archaeological field. The lecturer argues that, instead of facing the quandary, people at that time had increasing accesses to archaeological jobs than in the past. Specifically, all stages during the construction process demanded human resources such as examining the value of a site, drawing a preservation plan, processing the research and data and finishing a construction report.

There is a general discussion on success in contemporary society, and one of questions under debate is whether a person could achieve the acme of his career without their family's assistance with more ease than in the past. Some people place value on the help from one's family, while others also accent his own competence. I, personally, contend that, even though without family's support, a person can reap his fruits more easily than in the past.

At the very beginning, modern education furnishes a man with a good mastery of knowledge and promises him a promising career. Along with the economic development, the government, currently, place extremely concentration on the popularization of education, which renders opportunities for residents to obtain knowledge. To take my gregarious brother as a case, living in the urban, he had no access to get educated in the past. Luckily, he gains chance to study nowadays due to the enactment of education law, and he find a well-paid job in a metropolis. Here, we could witness his success resulted from the improvement of modern education instead of family’s assistance.

Moreover, the multiplicity of information collecting channels plays an essential role for citizens to earn success under the situation of no help from the family. Thanks to the advances of technology and science, odds are that people manage to search for information via internet. People only need clicking into the searching box and typing key words, all the information demanded will emerge on the screen in seconds. Additionally, there are many intriguing television programs which provide abundant chance to succeed. Specifically, the Economics, a program enjoys prestige,  focusing on the current trend of economy and markets enables businessmen to grasp the latent and slight opportunity to thrive.

Admittedly, I concede, to some degree, that family members can exert significant impacts on one's career in the past. For instance, with the financial support of the family, a man was able to open his own store; with the help of social circle from a family member, he seemed to work working problems out smoothly. Nonetheless, the role of family members on one's success no longer counts too much, since the advent of technological inventions such as computer and television set grants people comprehensive and useful information about job and promotion opportunity. After all, it is a man that he could construct his future by his own knowledge and competence, thus he is not supposed to rely too much on his family members.

In a nutshell, having discussed the reasons above, we may safely draw the conclusion that a man is more likely to stand on the zenith of his career without his family members' help than in the past. Only if he equips himself with knowledge and exploit resources around him such as Internet will he succeed ultimately.
