A number of factors influence the weight of GPA, they are: 1) the quality of your undergraduate program. 2) The number of years you've graduated from college. 3) Your GMAT and TOEFL score. 4) Whether you've had an graduate education... GPA is used in combination of other elements such as GMAT, TOEFL or your undergraduate institution to form a whole picture of your scholastic capability to make sure you can survive the academic rigor of the MBA program. As I have said, those elements are mutally complementary to some degree. GMAT is a usually considered a better indicator for academic success because: a) GMAT is a standardized test irrespective of the test-taker's undergraduate backgrounds, b) GMAT mainly test verbal, quantitative and analytical SKILLS that are most critical for academic success in MBA program, so the relevance is higher. Usually, a good GMAT score plus a satisfactory GPA from a good college will reassure adcome the applicant's academic ability. A good GMAT with a mediocre or below average GPA will raise some concern to the adcome, and in that case, they will usually look into your TOEFL score, your undergraduate academic program quality, and look at your essays and reference to find signs of academic competency. A good GPA, particularly from a college without prestige, plus a bad GMAT(below 670 or around) is hopeless in almost any cases unless you are superstar CEO in a giant company or your father is President Jiang or alike. |
