6:A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.
Writea response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.
Should a nation require students to study the same national curriculum until they enter university? To answer this question, we need to analyze the issue comprehensively and systematically. In some sense, I agree with the speaker's assertion that nation should coerce the students to study the same national curriculum, but the statement fails to consider the inflexible and disadvantage of this policy.
Of course, there is no denying the fact the central curriculum would be beneficial in some respect. At the personal level, the same national curriculum can help students have a broad view of this world. Furthermore, the same central curriculum can transform young students from vastly different backgrounds into competent, upwardly mobile adults. At the national level, education is usually viewed as a tool for solving social problems especially social inequality. By adopting the policy which coerces the students to study the same national curriculum, the nation can guarantee that different regions have the same curriculum and the equality of the education can be ensured. Without the same central curriculum, the remote areas is likely to have a worse education because the local governments do not have enough money to design the comprehensively curriculum.
Despite the merits of the speaker's claim, however, the speaker's ignores the implement difficulty of this policy. There is no doubt that different areas exert the different prosperity and some regions is unable to afford enough money to provide the national curriculum. Moreover, it is difficult to realize this policy in some countries which have lots of languages and ethics.
Furthermore, there are some adverse results by taking this policy. At the personal level, the same national curriculum may kill the students intrinsic of study. In my opinion, the genuine purpose of education is rooted not in self-realization of the individual but rather bringing into action the potential in man aimed at helping them to lead a better, intellectual and spiritual life. The same national curriculum requires all the students to study the same things. Some students are probably to lose their interest and potential. For supporting examples one need look no further than the students around us. They feel ennui about the school and even are addicted to the computer games just because they are not interested in the same national curriculum they studied. At the national level, the central curriculum may harm the diversity of the cultures. Many countries contain variety nations and different nations have their different cultures. Of course, every culture needs the young people to study and inherit. There is no doubt that the national curriculum contains no courses about these cultures because the national curriculum is aimed at the whole students among the countries. So when we adopt this policy which require all the students around the country to study the same national curriculum, the diversity of the cultures is possible to be harmed.
In sum, the national curriculum is a double-edged sword. Of course, the national curriculum is able to assure the equality of education and help students be more confident about their futures. But we cannot ignore the importance of the provincial curriculum, which cater to the students' hobbies and can inherit the cultures. In my opinion, we should attach importance to the national curriculum at the same time should be allowed to set some provincial curriculum |
