看了一下longman得解释，感觉好像是这样：

1. prove后面加上名词，意思是SHOW SOMETHING IS TRUE, [transitive] to show that something is true by providing facts, information etc.

2. prove后面加上形容词，那么相当于系动词be. [linking verb] if someone or something proves difficult, helpful, a problem etc, they are difficult, helpful, a problem etc

如果后面是名词的话，要用to be. 即prove to be sth.

The design proved to be a success.

3. 再看上面的题目，这里应该prove应该是系动词be得意思，不是证实的意思，所以用prove to be.
