113. The government has announced that it plans to build a new university. Some people think that your community would be a good place to locate the university. Compare the advantages and disadvantages.
Cheering for the proposal of building a new university in my community or booing at it greatly depends on how people consider and weigh the advantages and disadvantages. To build or not to build, let us take a deep look at what will be brought to us by the construction of the university.
There are many pros which help support the idea of building a university. Firstly, academicism and new energy brought by the vigorous, youthful students and learned professors will infuse into the community. Once the university starts to prosper, the community will also be well acclaimed for its much-improved environment and ambience. As we know that, the colorful and prestigious campus spirits can attract commercial activities thus promoting extra opportunities of employment in the community. For instance, the well-known Cambridge University is located in a town called Cambridge, UK. Because of the presence of such a distinguished university, Cambridge is visited by thousands of tourists every year as well as converging the best scholars in the world who come to discuss the hottest topics and share their latest accomplishments.
Admittedly, there is no denying that a newborn university may not become a successful one as we hope it to be. Many factors may be credited to the failure of the university such as lacking funding, inadequate transportation and the quality of teachers and students. In that case, many problems may emerge and burden our community instead of bringing prosperity. As all kinds of people crowd here, it is common for the residents to concern about this uncontrollable perplexity, fragile safety, troublesome dirtiness and so forth.
Just as William Shakespeare said “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so”. Pros and cons of building a new university surely influence people’s opinions and decision. Personally, I support the idea because I believe that even some risks exist, the benefits brought by the construction are greater than the drawbacks that follow. Moreover, since we have successful examples in front of us (as I mentioned above about the Cambridge University), we should seize this scarce opportunity, improving our community by infusing this new element—a university which has brilliant prospects and profound potential contributions.
