I agree with funny tiger. I knew so many MBA students from Wharton, Kellogg and Chicago. Some of them got a very good jobs, some of jobless. My point is still school doesn't make that much difference as long as you get into a certain group of them. People make it. However, you should choose a school who can help you to catch up in short term to compete with other students to get the job. Remember the whole mba game is to spend two years to find a job and since the first day when you enroll, your schools' mba career center will teach you how to network and what are those interview skills. My point is to choose your school based on your won character and experience. For exmaple, harvard is not for everyone. since they are case based school, you should ask you self. do you know those business practice already in the states. If you don't, maybe lectured based is better for some chinese, which however also has its drawback: you speach skill and communication skill in ENGLISH wouldn't improve that fast as it otherwise does.

Well, I admit that the adcom is unwilling to tell me the specific number, because yesterday I sent every top 30 b-schools an email ask about this admission rate directly. Most of them either diverted the top to some statistics about international students or politely refused my questions.

I applied Wharton last year only received a straight ding. Personally, I think the school like old people with long W/E. The class profile told me this: mid 80% W/E 44-121 (months), the second higer only after UNC. If wharton, I prefer re-apply in 2005

Anyway, you remind me one thing: the importance of English. Not only a key for application, but for job. Three years till graduation, enough time, isn't it?

My two cents:

1. I have a friend whose wife just graduated from Chicago this year. From what I've heard, the replacement service in Chicago is very effective. And the employment rate for Chinese is quite high comparing to others.

2. It's not politically correct to ask or answer questions like "how many chinese students you admitted", because it rings a bell for discrimination in North America. Besides, they probably don't even bother to get stats like that.

3. Related to that, in your application, you should emphasize your "international" background instead of "Chinese".

4. It's not a bad thing you don't have lots of Chinese classmates. It actually helps you to differentiate from others.

5. If you are really keen on schools recruiting lots of Chinese students, try some Canadian school. University of Toronto, York University or Richard Ivey....they have around 25% to 30% students from China originally. And if you check the ranking, say, financial times, they are not nobody at all.

Thanks Jack.

I decided to apply for Chicago this year for its reputation in finance, and for its friendliness to Chinese. I am now confused about the placement of Chicargo, however, the flexibility of school instills me confidence. It is not a school that can bear its ranks declining only because of the poor placement. Moreover, no one can predict what will happen in three years, hehe. It seems that I return to where I start: a good school is a school that will admit me.

Up to now, only one school kindly offered the statistics I quested, better than no response, anyway. Now I think to collect these meanless number wastes time. Why not sit down and work out my essay?

I did surf some websites of Canadian schools, which empasized the academic abilities, and set the minimum GPA. I was stopped by the latter criterion.

On Saturday, I met other applicants in Shanghai, and was amazed by their strong work experiences and excellent scores. Now, I realized the competitiveness of the application, and felt that somebody pressed the reset bottom of mine, and I am joining another battle.
