有谁遇到过这样的事？如何应付的？

Dear All:

I have recieved a MBA application invitation from the assistant dean of Simon school of business of university of Rochester.

They invited me to apply for their full time MBA Jan 2004 enrollment.The D/L is August.and they would waive $125 the application fee as a encouragement.

It is indeed a pleasant surprise, as I have never been in contact with them in any form.They told me that they obtain my information form a Graduate management Admission Search Service Search.

Does anyone have any silimar experience? If does, what have u done to deal with this?I am drafting a thank you letter. Should I tell them I would love to apply or tell them I would apply next year.

I am a bit struggling. Should I spend my precious time which other wise will be used to rewrite mt GMAT to work on their essay. It's a invitation not a promised garantee of addmission.

Is it deserve a try?

I would be more than delighted to get any comments from you

is Simon your target school? if yes, then take the advantage. If no, forget it. However, if you have time, it is a good chance to get familiar with all the application process through an application.

Actually, i have ever got a similar one in the application of Fall 2003. And simon, like some other school, does it like a marketing promotion and want to abstract more high score applicants. So, it does give you a low cost application, but no guarantee for your addmission.

I had such experience too. Half year after I took my GMAT, I received application package mails from UIUC and Boston college.

Do give damn about these materials. Just follow your own plan/dream.

well, since simon is not too bad a choice. just add it to your MBA school list then

Many guys and gals I know last year recieved the same letter.

No Big deal, just an ad.

Follow your gut to choose whatever you really like.

Although it waives the app fee, time you spend is your own. The letter itself is not a make or break, and no help for your addmission at all.

Many thanks to allof you for your kind help. I have aslo spent time talking to a adcom member for a business school.

He told me that . Schools buy lists of addresses from the GMAT organization that meet their target students (score, gender, location etc.). They do it for 2 reasons - one to find more possible candidates and two to increase the overall number of applicants they get so they can turn more down. This helps them in the rankings as it makes them look more selective.

Though Simon is mot my target school , but I feel it is no harm to give it shot as the application is waived, really LOW cost for me and is a good trial for applying next year.

Again thanks for the help. ALso hope This thread can also help people who will get such kind of letter later.

Just curious how dare  EST to use our information for commerical use. is it allowed?

I was told Simon is a quite good school. It's strong in finiance.

It is one of the few scholl that offers two entrance dates for full time MBA.
The fall entry MBA lasts 22 months, while the JAn entry MBA lasts 18 months.You mayb get more comprehensive detail on theri website.
Not harm to give it a shot, as some XDJM  mentioned above, it's not harm to give it a short if u have plenty of time.But make sure to follow your gut Don't bother!!


For me I would try, It's LOW cost, and more over as it is not my target school, so no matter what the outcome will be, I will be ok with it. I wil saa it as a warm -up for the apllication for  my dream school.

but i have done nothing about application by now ,so i decide to apply its fall program.
