Claim: Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive. Reason: It is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
Governments subsidize the major cities is beneficial for preservation and generation of a cultural traditions. However, on the other hand, governments should not ignore the need to support the rural areas which are generally the source of a nation’s cultural traditions. Below are my reasons to support my stance on this issue.
The prosperity of the major cities contributes greatly to conservation and dissemination of the cultural traditions. With the development of society, a growing number of people focus their attention on major cities which are always a bellwether of economic and culture. For example, thousands of people are crowding into Beijing to visit these old mysterious places of interest, such as The Great Wall and The Palace. They are eager to see the old architectures, traditional costumes, Chinese paintings and calligraphy and so on. At the same time, the tourism brings about negative impact on environment and local history. Many cultural relics are damaged to some extent, requiring a lot of money to maintain. Therefore, the financial support from governments is extremely essential to keep the cultural traditions thriving.
However, the governments cannot ignore the need to provide some small places with the financial support, since they are also the source of a nation’s cultural traditions. China is composed of many minorities who often live in rural areas. They have their own dialects and traditions that are valuable but not well known to the world owing to the less development in economic and technology. There is even not a smooth road to get there. In this case, in order to preserve their cultural traditions, the financial support is indispensable. With the support, they can construct a more convenient transportation system, and they can build up museums to conserve their historical relics. Besides, they can spread their cultural traditions on the newspaper and website to let people in other areas know.
In conclusion, both small places and major cities need financial support from the governments to keep their own cultural traditions blooming and flourishing. A nation’s cultural traditions are not only in big cities, but also in small towns.
