So, think about what you’d need to include if you were going to explain your research project to someone with general or casual knowledge about the subject, like . . . like your parents. That’s usually my rule of thumb: would my parents understand this?

我选的是to explain a theory，因为我觉得教授在说她自己写研究报告的一个方法，希望学生知道自己是专家，要写的让不懂的人知道这么一个理论。 虽然有点牵强啊，但是正确答案说to offer encouragement我是真没看出来，求解答

我和你一样，开始也选的to explain a theory，不过后来想通了。这段文字前面student说But I’m just. . . I’m looking at it and I’m afraid that it’s not enough, but I’m not sure what else to put in the report.很显然，这里可以看出学生对自己的report是否做好了怀疑，不自信。然后P说I hear the same thing from every student. You know, you have to remember now that you’re the expert on what you’ve done. 这里教授要学生记住自己才是自己report的expert，是在鼓励学生，不用对自己的report太担心，相信自己做的还是挺好的。。
