关于rather than。。。。。怎么用？一定要平行吗？

答案选E，我觉得D选项rather than 作介词短语的话，应该是对的呀？？？
例如：rather than用作介词
用作介词时，也表示but not，其意为“而不”、“不是……(而是)”、“与其……(不如)”，正如一般介词要后接动名词作宾语一样，rather than后也可接动名词作宾语。如：

"to" is implied after "rather than". "to" does not have to be repeated. It can be omitted to curb redundancy. (MGMAT SC 3rd ed. p.68)
(D) states --> many doctors have elected to retire early rather than (to) facing the threats... (This is not correct)

(E) states --> many doctors have elected to retire early rather than (to) face the threats... (This sounds much better)

rather than当然可以作介词用，但如果做介词，则是作状语，而非连词：

I decided to write a cheque rather than using the last of my cash。应该理解为：I decided to write a cheque，but not using the last of my cash. 这个use的动作是主语(I)直接发出的，而不是decided的目的，即：两个动作（use/write)不构成并列。

例如：rather than用作介词
用作介词时，也表示but not，其意为“而不”、“不是……(而是)”、“与其……(不如)”，正如一般介词要后接动名词作宾语一样，rather than后也可接动名词作宾语。如：

这样的理解会不会有些牵强？ 我觉得rather than还是按GMAT的要求保持双方平行为好。

完完全全同意，GMAT里面的rather than都是比较，不要去想做介词的情况。
