第一次练比, 大家见笑。 求打分
The author of the passage concludes that strict pricingregulations are needed to prevent citrus growers from continuing to inflateprices. The line of reasoning to this conclusion is that the need for suchregulations is supported by the author's contention that citrus growers havebeen responsible for the excessive increase in the price of citrus fruit. Oneevidence provided by the author is that in only one of the preceding elevenyears was the weather unfavorable for growing citrus crops. Another evidence isthat Megamart charged 5 cents apiece for lemons eleven years ago, but today itcharges over 30 cents apiece. The argument is flawed for several reasons asfollows.

First and foremost, the argument is unconvincing for it ignoresother possible causes of price increase. The conclusion that citrus growershave been responsible for the excessive increase in the price of citrus fruitis doubtful and the author’s line of reasoning is very problematic. Theconclusion is draw from only one year out of eleven was the weather unfavorablefor growing the citrus crops, if so all the prices increase should be citrus grower’scontribution. The argument is obviously flawed because it could be anythingthat caused price increase. For example, the labor costs, the inflation of thegeneral economy, and transportation costs.
Second, the fact that the author uses only lemons to provideevidence that citrus fruit prices has increased substantially is notsufficient. And we all know that lemons are only one kind of the citrus fruitand a particular one for the local market. The reasoning that lemons pricesincreases so citrus fruit prices increases are problematic and unconvincing.Because lemon prices could be affected by other factors for example lemon maymainly comes to the local market through import and over the years importingcosts are rising so the prices of the lemon has increased.
In conclusion, the author's argument is unconvincing. Tostrengthen the argument it would be necessary to show that other costs are notin present for the citrus growers and their manipulation are solely responsiblefor the price increase. And the author also need to provide more evidence thatthe citrus fruit prices does go up----not just inferred from the lemon prices. With all that done, the argument could appear more convincing.
