有个关于MANHATT的解释，不明白，求助

在看完manhattan后，再看这个题目有个大问题
因为m上说That or those indicating a New Copy or copies must be modified. In other words, you have
to add a description to indicate how the new copy is different from the previous version.
那所以正确答案C的情况就有些奇怪，those后面是at any other time这个明显是个介词短语怎么可能修饰名词/代词those所以我认为those没有东西修饰，感觉非常奇怪
谁能帮我解释一下

those 在这里不需要被修饰，在代词前面的句子没有任何hint 去指明代词的时候，代词就往往需要修饰或限制来确定它的身份，但是此题those 和 前面的small cars 在作对比，那么those 就是指的车啊~

哦哦，是不是可以这么理解，因为前面就是smaller cars，没有其他的复数NOUN，所以those不需要有东西来修饰。
恩，但是，这个真的可以按照我来理解吗？我只能够有一些不放心，谁在核实一下！求

不是按照你自己的感觉理解，是两个事物进行比较的时候，这两个对象一定是同一类型的啊，否则就没可比性了啊~

就像M里面举得例子一样：the money spent by her parents is less than that spent by her children.


those/that用作指代的关键点就是用those指代的那个必定和前面有某种不同，如果是一样的话那就用personal pronouns了。所以只要修饰部分点出不同即可。


这道题里面 Today’s technology allows manufacturers to make small cars that are more fuel-efficient than those at any other time in production history.


我觉得这边at any other time in production history是做时间状语修饰those。比较的对象是今天的small cars 和 any other time in production history的small cars。


所以不同点在于时间。所以可以用those。


这是我的观点哈~如果有不对的地方请指教~


PS：我最近也在看manhattan哈~另外你还有篇帖子说的关于there be句型的问题，我觉得应该是ARE 如果后面是复数的话。

可以这样理解了，但是提醒楼主哦，ETS有时候会设陷阱的，两个对比的对象虽然是同一类的，但是前者是单数，后者是复数，那么此时用those 指代后者就是错的，因为前者是单数导致those没有指代。

个人认为，比较题中如果是一样的词，在没有歧义的情况下，可以省略。those后面的的small cars被省略了
