Dilemma

Very much disoriented!

拿了几个offer,但不知道何去何从:

1. UNC MBA, 2 years, and have to pay about 80k bucks after the deduction of scholarship

2. NYU Economics master, 1 year, and have to pay about 40k bucks

3. ***** University (a noteless one) Sociology master, 1 year and full scholarship

4. Oxford, still waiting

Could anybody give me any insights?

I know that people would ask "what do you really want to learn"? Actually I'm quite intrested in the Finance section but i think i lack both in theory and practice. I applied the 1,2, 4 because I think it could or at least would be able to lay a better ground for my future career and as for 3, for the funding and for the reason that the economics track in Sociology is also helpful.

Or should I retake GMAT (my score is only 730) and reapply this year?

If you retake GMAT and get 780, of cause it will add weights to your application. But you also take the risk to get 680.

If I were you, I will select the schools in the following sequence:

1. Oxford, a well-known school that is not ridiculous expensive and only cost 1 year.

2. UNC, at least it's MBA, which probably can lead you to fulfill your dream.

3. ***** University, you can get an US degree without losing money.

4. NYU, ecnomic sounds like a major to do research. Maybe Phd is more suitable for this major. Otherwise, what kind job can you look for after graduation? It doesn't worth 40k bucks.

Really thanks a lot! Thanks for your detailed and insightful advice!

I have talked to a friend and coincidentally, his suggestions are very similar to yours! Perhaps this is the most sensible choice for me now!

Thank you again!

No thanks. May I ask you a question? How did you write the Oxford essay:

"Which recent development, world event, or book has most influenced your thinking and why?"

Thank you in advance!

BTW, i have a thought:

if I just first went to the **** university and applied for this year, what's your opinion?

One lession I learnt from my application this time was that I prepared too hasty and just turned my application too late, which made me in an awkward situation. What's your idea if I just went to the school to study Sociology first and then quit if I could get better offer from UNC?

Thanks for your answer. As for your question, I think it mostly depends on how good your current job is. If it's highly paid, or if it interests you, or if it can add something for your future MBA application, you should stay. Otherwise you can go to **** university. But you'd better to prepare for the question about why you study Sociology. I really don't think it's easy to link it with business and convince others.

Another thing is that you definitely can get an MBA with gmat 730.

Then what about NYU Economics M.A? Will it be of some help?

To be frank, I just think my current job will not be so rewarding ( maybe about 8k to 9k a month) and i no longer feel much enthusiasm in the job.

Maybe it would be of some help to apply MBA. But that help worth $20,000 at most. My suggestion is to spend money efficiently unless you are very wealthy. You know the MBA also needs a big sum and it's not guaranteed to find a good job even for top MBA graduate.
