A：the sandpipers vanishing in the northeastern United States is a result，逻辑错误

B：没得说，服了ETS

Ｃ：that the birds themselves are vanishing in the northeastern United States不能与Like后面的成分对比；changes to用法很奇怪

D：in the northeastern United States位置很奇怪；vanishing不能与like后面de成分对比

E：同Ｄ；sentence fragment

Actually, this question is just consistent with ETS GMAT preference for "like" is "similar to" here.
