16. Although Christopher Columbus failed in his original goal, the discoveries he

did make were as Important than the route to Asia he expected to find.

answer:  C       as--------more

as```as```同级搭配
more```than````比较级搭配

the discoveries which he did make were more important than the route to Asia which he expected to find.
其中he did make作为discoveries的定语;he expected to find作为Asia的定语;而真正的谓语是“were”。
the discoveries were more important than the route to Asia.

2.           BASIC, the acronym for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code, is a high – level Instruction Code, is a high – level computer programming language ---.

(A)         learning relatively simple  (B)        related it simply to learning

(C)          simple and relative to learn  (D)   that is relatively simple to learn

18. Because the diamond is the hardest naturally substance, it is

used in industry for to cut, grinding, and boring other hard materials.
key:  C
cut------cutting

37、Composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II brought to the musical Oklahomal extensive musical and theatrical backgrounds as well as familiar with the traditional forms of operetta and musical comedy.

(A) grain crops ripen     (B)grain crops are ripe

(C)the ripening of grain crops    (D)to ripen grain crops

Permit that…

permit doing

permit sb. to do

permit that…

99.8

28、Free nitrogen is chemically inert and combines with other elements only since very high temperatures or pressures.

应该是combine sth. with sth.

11, Civil Rights are the freedoms and rights-------as a member of a community state or nation.

The answer is A. I know the reason but why B is correct??

7、_______ballet dancers learn five basic positions for the arms and feet.

(A) All of   (B) Of every   (C)All   (D)Every

答案是A。

什么时候用all of,什么时候用all?

All+名词复数;或All of + 限定词+名词复数。例如此题可用:“All ballet dancers” or “all of the ballet dancers”。

34.The carbon-are lamp, a very bright electric lamp used for spotlights, consists of two carbon electrodes with a high-current are passing between it.

17,  (the flowering) of African American talent (in) literature,

2001.8

Established in 1860, the Covernment Printing Office prints and binds documents for all department of the United States government.

government也是可数名词,单数可数名词前必须有限定词来修饰,其中的限定词包括冠词a an the、人称代词his her、指示代词that this,所有格tom's,不定代词any some.

government前面有the united states government修饰相当于the (united states) government

2001.10

25。With little (nor) no mass and (no) electric chargh, neutrinos can penetrate a solid object such as the Earth (as) if it (were) not there.
答案是A。

nor-->both
both...and...

19。 (Early) signs (characteristic) of the acute phase of viral hepatitis in (adults) are abdominal pain, nausea, and (feverish) often accompanied by chills.
feverish-->fever

我感觉signs之后省略了which are,即:
(Early) signs <which are>(characteristic) of the acute phase of viral
hepatitis in (adults) are abdominal pain, nausea, and (feverish) often
accompanied by chills.

14, By focusing on the interesting, ------the significant the penny
press newspaper of the   1830`s helped to change the concept
of news
a,  which does not nessarily   b,  not  nesessarily
c,  was not necessarily   d,  nor necessarily

(By focusing on the interesting, ------the siginficant),(the penny
press newpapers of the   1830`s )helped to change the concept
of news

1.During the nineteenth century the molecular theory of matter was developed, (which) considered (all matter) to (be composed of) tiny, indivisible (entity) called molecules.

可我觉得C, all matter也错呀,应为all matters。

2.So-called “Silicon Valley,” home to Stanford University and to some of the United States’ foremost high technology corporations, is a loosely defined area in the Santa Clara Valley in Northern California.

Called “Silicon Valley,”home...is a...

9, Insulin is manufactured by specialized cells in the pancreas and
released------ glucose reaches a certain concentration in the
bloodstream.
A, which    B, whenever      C,how     D, during

30, Harbors are (protected) areas (of water) that can be (used the) transfer of passengers and cargo (between) ships and shore.

22.Established in 1948 ,the State University of  New York is the singly   largest university system in the United States.

1, In 1895 C.W.Post introduced his all-grain drink, postum, claming that -----"read blood".
(A) made a
(B) it made

2, When--- on a two-lane road, you should pass only on the left of the vehicle.
(A) overtaking another vehicle

delta-2-1: Because older adults have poorer vision and hearing, _______ some things they do not perceive as well as they used to.
A. along with B.thus C.there are D.but also

delta-2-17: It is (highly) recommended that any person (exploring) a cave(carries) a source of (artificial) light.

delta-2-23: (The) North American branch of the family Mustelidae, (whose)
members vary greatly in (appearance) and habits, (consists) otters,
weasels, skunks, and badgers.

delta-2-25
The largest poisonous snake, the king cobra, can be twice as long _______.
A. than the tall polar bear  B.as the polar bear is tall
C.is taller than the polar bear  D.the polar bear is not as tall
答案B,as...as, 可是加上tall怎么看怎么怪?

2, The NASA project received its name (because) the number of men who
would be together in the space capsule (orbiting) the Earth.

The answer is A.  I want to know why I can not choose B. (orbiting--> orbit). Thanks for reply!

The NASA project recieved its name because of the numer of men who would be together in the sapce capsule which is orbiting the Earth.

(Due to) the refraction of light rays, (this) is impossible for the naked eye to determine the exact location of a star close to the horizon.

this 改成 it, 没有问题.

但是在赖水信的语法上看到 due to 不能做介系, 只能是be due to . 应用owing to.

请教: due to 和 owing to 的区别和用法.

Due tohas been widely used for many years as a compound preposition like  owing to, but some critics have insisted that the adjectival status of  due must be retained. According to this view, it is incorrect to say  The concert was canceled due to the rain, as opposed to the acceptable  The cancellation of the concert was due to the rain, where  due continues to function as an adjective modifying  cancellation.

a can be minor    b as minor   c minor an   d a minor

16. the lenses in an optical microscope bend the light passing through a specimen to form an image of taht specimen that is much lager ----------actually viewed
a than it  b than the one  c one than  d than on which

再看A,it指代不清,是指the image,还是那个speciman,所以通常用that of。或 the one

同意选B,the one和actually viewed之间省略了which is

17. Test-1-85

The various peoples who developed North America have made it a world leader economic .

leader economicà economic leader.
make+n.1/pron+n.2
make+n./pron+adj

18, Snatching up teh soup ladle, he pried open a door that had been nailed shut for three years.

22. She rang up her daughter and  asked for her help in what she described as a little spot of bother.

23. Volcanves   are  divided  into  three  main  groups, based  on  their   shape  and  the  type  of  material  they  ——
A、are  made    B、made  of          C、are  made  of          D、made   for

A、not   use         B、were   no  use       C、had  no   use       D、it   was   not   used

here B, missing the article "the", should change to "the human body"

32. The   lower   ——in  a   room ,  the  more   slowly   our   eyes   focus,
A、the   level   of   lighting   B、 light   level

C、leveling    of    light       D、lighting    is   level
lighting is different from light .here we should choose lighting. so A is right. in the more...the more structure, verb "be" can be omitted

33. Not   only   ——all    the   positive   charge    of   an   atom,it  is   also   the  size   of  the  weight   of   every   atom

here the verbs in the not only...but also stucture are different, one is "hold", the other is "is", so "holds" should change to does hold; also, hold is vt., directly followed by none, so here may cause misunderstanding.

All eels spawn in the sea,后面是独立主格形式,

3.Perhaps the most sinificant postwar trend was the decentralization of cities throughout the U.S, ____ when massive highway-building programs permitted greater suburban growth.

a)and accelerated a phenomenon  b) a phenomenon that accelerated

why not a) for this question?

4.Some areas of the deep sea are vulnerable frequent natural distances taking the form of intense currents, mud slumps, low oxygen, and upwellings.

answer is A, but how to correct?

5. Sand is formed by the weathering and decompositionof all types of rock, _____ most abundant mineral constituent being quartz.

a) and its  b)since its  c)its  d)it is

the answer is c), but there is no conj, how to connect these 2 sentences.

6. It is said that no potential frontier has such fired the imagination or challenged the ingenuity of humankind as has space.

the answer is b), how to correct it?

1.nose改为the nose!

4 A 改成 frequently vulnerable

6 B 改成as

1 C 2 A 3 B 4 A 5 C 6 B

NO 1:  The (layers of )an elephant's task are deposited (from) the pulp, (yet) that the innermost layer is the (newest).

NO3: It (is said) that no poetntial frontier has (such) fired the imagination or challenged the (ingenuity) of humankind (as has) space.

这道题里面有一个结构such...as.../so... as...

such+名词 such a  beatiful girl

so+adj   a so beatiful girl

57. Many of today's Chinese family patterns already exist in ancient societies, but are obviously not on a much lager form, an extended family comprising three or more generations.

58. Members of a nation's foreign service represent that country's interests abroad and report on the conditions, trends, and policies of the country which they are stationed.

D肯定是错的,应改为:country in which they are staioned.

59. if the pattern of volcanic (eruptions) continues, (another)lava flow might (have occurred) within the next (few hundred)years.

have occurred ---occur

60. In the early 1900's Roy Harris created ( and promoted) a ( distinctly) American ( style ) of classical music and greatly influenced a number of ( composer) in the United States.

The answer is D, but I think " distinctly" is wrong, too. should be distinct.

61.( Among the ) symptoms of measles, which take about twelve days ( to) incubate, ( are) a high fever, swelling in the glands in the neck, a cough, and ( sensitive ) to light.

The answer is D, A is right? then which is subject.

62. In the early 1900's Roy Harris created ( and promoted) a ( distinctly) American ( style ) of classical music and greatly influenced a number of ( composer) in the United States.

D is wrong because "a number of" 后面应该接复数。。。which is " composers" here~~

63. ( Among the ) symptoms of measles, which take about twelve days ( to) incubate, ( are) a high fever, swelling in the glands in the neck, a cough, and ( sensitive ) to light.

The answer is D, A is right? then which is subject.

a high fever, swelling in the glands in the neck, a cough, and ( sensitive ) to light.( are) ( Among the ) symptoms of measles, which take about twelve days ( to) incubate

64. (Greatly high) production costs, together with serious safety conernces, have reduced the number of nuclear power plants being built today.

Greatly high------>Highly?

greatly high----->great high

65. The individual tax is the (governmental) largest source of revenu.

(governmental) -------->government's

The individual tax is the (governmental) largest source of revenue.那么,词序应该为the largest governmental source of.....

而改成the government's largest source of ...

66. Finacier Andrew Mellon (donated )most of his( magnificent) art (collection) to the National
                          A                  B          C
Gallery of Art,where it is now (locating).
                           D

67. James Baldwin's plays and stories,  (which are) to  (some degree)  autobiographical, established  (them)  as a  (leading)  figure in the United States civil rights movement.

这道题选C,但是我想知道(which are) to  (some degree)  autobiographical,这句话的意思和结构,请高手帮我把他分解开,谢谢

to some degree是在一定程度上的意思,抛开这个,就是which are autobiographical,应该明白了吧

68. 17,  (the flowering) of African American talent (in) literature,
music, and (art) in the 1920`s in New York city became (to know) as the
Harlem Renaissance.

69. sleep is controlled by the brain and (assoociated by) characteristic breathing rhythms

改为associated with

70.most algonquin indian tribes except those of the north were sedentary and carried on agriculture with varying degrees of (intense)

71. several ancient culture presented math in (sentences) form with little or no abbreviation or symbolism

sentences-->sentence

use a single noun. to modify another noun.

ADD

1。有特定的状语从句引导词,如when, while,if,as,although,even though,though.

Although (it is) native to Europe, the daisy has now spread throughout most

           of North America.

其中it is可以省略。。。。。。

cost, show, buy, give, win, consider, call, name,
还有make, appoint. Select

如《美国传统词典》brought home a variety of snacks.

be  known  for   因什么而出名

be  known   as  作为什么而出名

老俞因为脸长而出名,用be known for his long face, 后面接的是主语的某个特征;

The trouble is that I have lost his address.

28题(an atom of that element )(contains )(Each chemical element )
