Topic: For successful development of a country, should a government focus on its budget more on very young children education rather than on university.
It is widely accepted that high quality education lays a solid foundation for a nation’s economic development and well-being of its people. In my view, government should be more mindful of university education and mainly focus its budget on it instead of early children education.
Firstly, when money is spent on school facilities, university students can make full use of facilities and recoup greater benefits from them later. For example, if government builds up a library in the school, universities students will be more likely to go to borrow books. On the contrary, early children tend to play on the ground and show little interest in reading. Likewise, if government constructs sports facilities such as basket ball court or tennis court, the young children cannot make an effective utilization of them. Therefore, it is not worthwhile to spend colossal amounts money on young children education.
Second, university has a much larger group of faculty and thus needs more money to support it. In the middle and high school, students are required to learn very basic courses, therefore, a few teachers can be sufficient. However, university usually has various types of courses and majors. Each course needs a highly professional tutor to run, resulting in a larger faculty group. In addition, those highly professional tutors in university usually charge a premium on their salaries, which is another factor to the soaring expense of university education.
Admittedly, early children education is also fairly important. Kids should be guided to cultivate correct values and encouraged to find their interests in their formative years. However, they do not deserve government’s huge educational expenditure in that they are too young to make full use of the money.
In summary, I strongly believe that government should take higher priority over university education and increase the money spent on it. This approach will bring more benefits to countries and enable them to thrive in the long term. |
