这条题讨论的很多了，但是我觉得很多人都没有说到点子上，选e，但是我认为b更好，很多人反驳b说if不能引导表语从句，但是if从句可以理解为whether。。。or。。。or后面的小分句的条件从句，而且这样意思更加完整，因为只有这样我们才可以理解成“猩猩在非人类中有独特学习能力还是其他动物在研究到一定程度时也会出现同样的情况，还不清楚。如果是e这个选项明显翻译不出来这个意思，我觉得写出中文不能体会出他们的差别，请大家用英文想。

or后面的东西是对前面内容的解释或定义。or相当于i.e.(in other words)
比如：
It is unclear whether it will rain tomorrow, or whether I need to take an umbrella tomorrow.
=It is unclear whether it will rain tomorrow or it is unclear whether I need to take an umbrella tomorrow.
or的前后是一个意思，只是为了读者更明白而换个方式表达一下。
B选项：
=It is unclear whether chimpanzees are unique among nonhuman species in their ability to learn behaviors from one another or it is unclear if other animals were studied with as much depth they would exhibit similar patterns

谢谢，但我觉得你说的or是一般的用法，但是这相当于是个固定搭配whether。。。or。。。如果是b的话相当于就是whether 。。or。。。whether。。。你的理解是并列连词中的or，同时我觉得我觉得whether。。。or。。。中重复whether是有点redundant的。or应该是whether。。。or。。。里面的or。。。

<1> 我觉得这里是whether A or whether B，而不是whether A or B。
<2> 前者whether A和whether B是同一个意思的不同说法，or相当于"换言之"。
比如：I will go out whether it is rainy, or whether I may get wet.
<3> 后者whether A or B表示"A或者B"
比如：I will go out whether it is rainy or sunny.
<4> 本题中or前后句子的意思是同一个意思的不同说法，而不是“或者”。

本题的2个知识点需要把握的是，1）在GMAT考试中只能永whether表示是否，不能永if表示是否，你别challenge我答案E不是有if麽，那是虚拟语气，不是表示是否。
2）when只能引导时间状语从句，注意！注意！绝对不能引导条件状语从句。
ok，了解这2个知识点后，AB直接干掉了，因为if表示是否。C选项少了一个是否，因为前面说it is unclear whether .... or balabala，or后面的问题也是我们不确定的事实，这是whether...or不是固定搭配了，or就是简单原意或者的意思，所以别纠结。C少了一个whether所以不对，不平行了。比较容易错的是D选项，错在that were studied，首先你这里永were studied是不是表示已经研究过了，那你还说不知道similar pattern是否会显现，这不前后是矛盾的么。你在看E，永的虚拟语气，if they were studied，这个were不是过去式啊，这是虚拟语气用法。那么是不是表示与事实不想符合，即这个研究其实还没有做过，如果我们研究过的话，将会怎么样怎么样。所以答案是E。另外，有些人说，E选项这个if后面的they指代的最近是patterns会有歧义，不会的。你单独读这个句子当然会歧义，你要结合上下文读，你就会知道，这个被研究的对象是animals，而不是patterns。
