划线的用的是从新东方书里东拼西凑起来的模板,不知道这样自己东一句西一句的会不会被判抄的啊,哪位能告诉我一下?
In this argument, the author concludes that Take Heart Fitness Center should offer a wide range of activities in order to gain a competitive advantage in the local health and recreation market. To support this conclusion, the arguer points out that the center saw a 12 percent increase since the new swimming pool open last year. In addition, the arguer reasons that they should continue to add new recreational facilities in the following years to broaden the membership. At first glance, the argument is somehow plausible, but further reflection reveals that it suffers from at least three logic flaws.

In the first place, the author’s conclusion depends on the questionable assumption that the conditions listed by the author have remained unchanged in this city since the survey was conducted a year ago. However, it fails to consider that one year is sufficient time for a significant change in the overall healthy condition of citizens, the paying ability, or their interesting sports. Any of these factors can affect the growth of members in Take Heart center.

The second assumption is that swimming pool will be analogous to recreational facilities. Apparently, this assumption is weak, since although there are points of comparison between swimming pool and other entertainment instructions, differences between the two facilities clearly outweigh the surface similarity. For example, problems of long duration of a hot summer affect the swimmers but are virtually absent in other sports. The same may be true that the country frequently wins in the Olympic Games so that the people there are highly interested in swimming. Problems such as these preclude them from having a similar effect on the increasing membership.

Finally, the author fails to consider the dramatically increasing cost this wide range of activities might bring. For example, the Take Heart may have to construct a multipurpose game room, a tennis court, and a golf course, and to advertise on the most popular local media, all to compensate for the revenue. Because the author’s argument lacks a complete analysis of the situation, the author’s forecast of a competitive advantage cannot be taken seriously.

In sum, the author fails to validate the conclusion that the new construction of recreational facilities will lead the center to a more competitive position. To make it more logically acceptable, the author should demonstrate that the situation this year has remained unchanged and that other sports can bring the same benefits that the swimming pool brings. In addition, the arguer would have to provide more concrete evidence, especially the information concerning the cost of the new projects, to rule out the abovementioned possibility that would undermine the author’s claim. |
