关于not..but的问题

上面不是说not可以放在平行之外的么，不解。。

but连接的东西要平行啊。。。。。这和not的位置有什么关系。。。。
这又不是什么固定搭配，就是but引导的平行结构啊。。。。

 我感觉贴的这道和楼主贴的那道在考not but上没什么区别啊，楼主贴的are not the products of natural selection，...，but are simply random by-products （正确答案）    
笔记上说：was not produced by…, but was produced by 不平行，这不跟上面的结构一样的。。那该怎么解释？？版主说 除了not verb...but verb...之外，are...but  are...也是一种平行，即not在平行之外. 那应该两种平行都可是对的才对啊
