US Accounting PhD application experience

Way to go, man! Congratulations! As for PhD application, I think the two advantages you have, that is, strong references and research experience, are definitely those that are valued greatly by all the top schools. Especially if one can get three strong recommendation letters from professors in top US schools, that itself signals that you are potentially a good student. Hope we get to see each other in the States~BTW, some CDers tend to be critical when they do not understand how you get admitted. Do not take it personally. I am pretty sure that you deserve what you got.

umn的theory很好，empirical这两年也还行。我想他劝你不去clumbia的原因可能是那里老师不管学生，这一点对中国人来说还是很hurt的。
不过clumbia还是出了zhang xiaojun的说。

it seems gu always talks to students they recruited to persuade them to decline other offers, and it really works sometimes. But it does not make any sense to turn down columbia for minnesota even if LZ wants to focus analytical. I think one concern of columbia is there are too many chinese students. But, yes, they do graduate xiaojun zhang and jing liu, who are top chinese accounting researchers.

Thanks for sharing, mate! great efforts, great story. I know quite a while has passed since the last post in this section, but I did feel very lucky having found such an informative case like yours today!

Just out of curiosity, what class division you got for your honours? as I know a 1st class honours and 2nd upper class honours from an Australian institute, in many cases, could make a big difference in application outcome especially when you are applying to top US business schools. Thx!
