Hey there!  Yes, it is an advantage to apply from the US.  The reason tho is a bit different from the one you mentioned—mainly, it shows that you have international background.  And that is important stuff.  To prove that you have spent time in the US, presumably speaking English etc., you will improve your chances for sure.  You would be in the same “pool,” but you would be in better shape than many people in your pool.  After all, most folks applying from China have never been (let alone worked) in the USA.
