我看了你们的几个帖子，发现各位都十分在意句子的结构而忽视了句子的意思。 age=the number of years someone has lived or something has existed，就是说当how old的意思的时候，可以用when.但是搂住的帖子里说到的是年代：▶ERIOD OF HISTORY◀

We are living in the age of technology.Molecular biology is pushing medicine into a new age .

注意这里当年代讲的时候，前面有一个介词in, 那么when great ice sheets had existed in current temperate areas就不如 in which great ice sheets existed in what are now temperate areas表达准确了。

而且请各位记住，in which和when在一起的时候，尽量要注意which前面的介词。一般情况下，in which 优先于when.

我觉得D与B比较,缺点有三:

1.WHEN 不如 IN WHICH . 当age用作壮语的时候，age when 适用，而本题中的age不是时间壮语。

2、过去完成时不如过去时，本题没有表达强调是某一时点之前发生的

3、in current temperate areas表明great ice sheets存在于current temperate areas；而in what are now temperate areas表明great ice sheets存在于in some areas that are now temperate areas.

这里的age就是指年代啊! 后面似乎可以用when嘛。还是好晕哦

我总觉得这个B里面的in what are now temperate areas特别罗嗦，其实current temperate area就已经表达了”现在是温带地区“的含义了。

when表示某个时点,是一时的,in which表示某个时段,是"在...时段中"的意思.

以上举的两个age when的例子其实都是作"某一时点"来解释的.有一个时候,在那时什么什么都是低的,什么什么都是便宜的.暗含了和现在的对比,"现在"是一个时点的概念,所以说的过去也是时点的概念.

表明一种渊源关系：（某个地方原来没有名字， 现在叫做BLABLABLA， ） 这里也有这种感觉

zhouhaichen DD的总结不错，我补充个人想法如下：

1。when=in which,在og11地解释中已经明确说明in which or when can be used interchangeably in this sentence.，when的确有during the tiem at which; while地用法，如：When I was young, I was sick all the time. 尽管in which 可能能更好地表达during 的意思。

2.关于过去完成时:本题说的是一个概念，而不是陈述一个事实，因此没有必要强调过去完成的必要，尽管来两者的确有时间的先后。

3。mariezhu mm和zhou DD都提到了（读到marie mm的说法的时候有种豁然开朗的感觉）：in current temperate areas感觉是great ice sheets（过去）存在于全部current temperate areas；而in what are now temperate areas感觉great ice sheets存在于现在温暖的地区，言外之意这些地区过去不温暖，这种地区应该是current temperate areas的一部分(有些地区可能一直都温暖）。

各位意下如何？

我的看法是,在这里用＂When....＂修饰存在歧义，从结构上看起来好象是做时间状语修饰led, propose．
