hi，it is the merger between the "gas company" and the "electric company". So, that leaves D and E. plus, " the merger" should use a singular verb form. E is the right answer.

I guessss  as here means" in the same way" ,eg: AS we did last year, we will win this year. (= in the same way)

Thank you for your explanation,but what about the choice A~ it is also use the single figure, the only difference between A and E is the position of marking~~so .....please ...

Hi,it is the  merger between the "gas company" and the "electric company”(U can not omit the word"company"), thus U should mention TWO cmpanies instead of " leading gas and electric company" it sounds one companyyy!
