搜索了好久没有找到解答，希望得到各位NN的帮忙。我纠结于选项A，选项A的错误到底是什么？ 是like 可能有歧义地修饰 （a goal of a
majority of young adults）和 （young adults），还是like 下面 只能跟名字和代词，还是什么？亟待解答，万分感谢

It is a comparison, the first sentence is "owning and living in a freestanding house on its own land is still a goal of a majority of young adults", thus  we should look for similarrrrrrrrrr structure in the 2nd sentence.

Clearly E for parallelsim and "as" for comparing two clauses(thus like is wrong)
plus we need similarrrrr structure:
X is goal of young adults, as it was of earlier generation
it 指代X，and two clauses all have a subject and a verb, thus A is wrong again.
