melody304: Stern does not look for certain applicants profiles. If general management is your interest you should convey that in your essay. The key is to narrow the scope down to specific functional areas, which you could pursue in the short-term (summer internship and post-MBA), and explain why you are interested in doing this, what effort you have made to develop skills required for the transition, and how you will use resources available at Stern in your job search. Stern has strong alumni base and corporate relationships for general management positions. There are many Stern students who have received summer or full-time offers from leading consulting firms, strategy/business development positions, and management rotational programs in corporations.
