同意 bo 布的看法，metabolize 是及物动词其宾语就是chemical Irritant,而render harmless与metabolize chemical Irritant是对等的平行结构。只是把这样一个平行结构插在动词与宾语之间确实为了出题人。

我不太理解B的解释：
Trying that it metabolize is ungrammatical.

ungrammatical：
我查了字典，有两种解释1.不符合语法规则的2.不符合习惯用法的！
到底是哪一个？
如果是1.的话，错误在哪里？
猜测：
1.it指代： it不能只带所有格中的n.  例如: organism`s ,it 不能只带organism
2.与划线句前面衔接： enzymes that are the organism`s tryting that it metabolize 连续使用that，不够简洁；而且主谓不一致，应该是it metabloizes

一直没明白上上楼所说的头重脚轻和大于号，
metabolize是及物动词，要接宾语啊。

比较支持的两种说法，
1，提取公因式法，
attempt to metabolize (the chemical irritant) , or render (the chemical irritant) harmless
但是这种说法我不能理解的就是为什么or前面加逗号，如果并列两个动词加宾语的确应该是没有逗号的呀。
2，插入语，
attempt to metabolize, (or render harmless), the chemical irritant.
括号中间，整个一个render harmless做插入语，解释说明metabolize，这个好像也make sense。

应该是 enzyme是后面这个定语从句的先行词 定语从句的主语是enzymes 谓语是are 宾语是the organism’s attempt    再后面 to metabolize, or render harmless, the chemical irritant 应该是宾补 the chemical irritant是代替那个主句主语的物质。
