Michigan, CMU, Georgetown, or Oxford

IMHO, location is the most important factor for international students to choose among b-schools in similar tiers.

the brandname of Georgetown is more famous than CMU, both in America and internationally. both MBA programs are not well-known.

If you are not confident in your spoken english, choose the school wioth less Case study workload. One reminder: bad speken english can not guarantee you a decent position in decent consulting company. Even you are from Harvard Business School.

If you worried about your age, Oxford is the best one for you! But surely you will come back to China!

If you want to work abroad, I think Georgetown is not a bad choice. The location is very important for the placement.

If you want to work outside US, say Hong Kong, Michigan is the best one.

So my suggestion is "depends". You should think carefully what you want before you make the final decision.

Good luck!

If i were u, I will prefer go back to a China's telecom company but who has an intention to expand to overseas market.As your background, plus a first rate overseas MBA, I think its better off to develop myself towards an overseas top management position from a China's domestic leading telecom company first and then go back to the corp office in mainland and then head towards more senior positions like VP,COO,CEO.....then get retired at ur later fourty or early fifty to enjoy life with your family.

So back to your original question,oxford maybe is a better choice considering its overwhelming reputation and influence in European countries,where is the market with more potential clients for China's telecom company.

pls note I am not senior guys from ur area,my idea is just for ur reference.

For your case, I think Oxford is a better choice.  One year, brand name, and cheaper.

But UMBS is a better choice if you want to study in USA. (UMBS is very strong in general management and consulting)

Thank you for your helpful advice.  seems that I should choose UMBS.  don't know whether the workload there is too hard.

no doubt that UMBS is the best. I am not sure UK school will give you a chance to stay in UK for two years.

don't worry about the school location if you are going to Top10, a lot of top companies will fly into your small town and look for people. I knew at least 20 UMBS people(8 of them are international students), I have never heard anybody complaining about the location

i never doubt your statement. my job-offer-awaiting friends at UMBS complained of nothing except the market, although they knew the market was actually taking off... while the Chinese students in CBS/NYU gave two thumbs up upon their advantageous location after nearly all of them went to top PE/IB/MC this year.

1. ranking - esp. overall b-school ranking - sucks, just stick to how the school performs in your target major and interests;

2. get close to your potential partners and employers, dont expect too much on your future "prestigious" alumni, esp. when you are an international and absolutely when you're aiming for careers in China;

3. Michigan may own a bit more reputation in China than Georgetown does, but never much - it can never be on par with H/S/W or even Yale, Berkeley and UCLA in terms of brand name recognition.
