In the passage above ,the author claims that schools should devote more time to teaching science and technology and less time to teaching arts and humanities. He cites as evidence that comparing with arts and humanities ,the fast-developing science and technology are more aid and essential to modern society .however ,on this point of view, I can’t agree with it.
It is an undeniable fact that science and technology facilitate our life to a degree and that nobody can live a good life without the latest inventions such as computer and mp3 player .however ,the importance of science and technology does not go contradictory with arts and humanities .An example may well illustrate this point .Bill Gates ,known as the father of Microsoft, is sure to devote much of his time studying the software ,but he is still a man of knowledge and humanity .consequently ,there is no need for school to enforce their science and technology teaching at the expense of arts and humanities.
What’s more ,people should learn to be a human before anything else .A child without the ability to tell good from bad ,should be taught that stealing and robbing are evil and what beauty means .In addition, we take advantage of science and technology in order to contribute to our society and our people .Thus ,people who have no moral ethics or common knowledge may fail to use the newly-developed technology in a meaningful way .Take a look of our today’s society ,the phenomena is becoming more obvious that the number of high-tech criminals is ever increasing and people who commit such crimes are mostly teenagers and young adults .These criminals are bound to be punished ,but some there are more to be blame on this issue. As their life guide ,teachers and parents are also responsible for this ill behavior in that they fail to make it clear how to be a man .even if science and technology are valuable to our society ,as a result ,we may suffer a great loss ,both money and talent people.
In conclusion , in no way are science and technology superior to arts and humanities .despite the importance of science and technology ,it makes no sense for schools to devote more time to teaching science and technology and less time teaching arts and humanities .
