题目: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Younger school children (ages five to ten) should be required to study art and music in addition to math, science, history and language.
作文:
For the pupils in the primary school, the early periods (ages of 5-10) are usually be viewed as one of the most important stage for the mental development and talent cultivation. Some people may argue that the academic trainings on the subjects such as math, language are utmost important for the younger school children, and the art and musical training is not so necessary. However, in my opinion, I strongly hold the idea that such trainings as arts and musical are indispensible for these children, because it can instill the good taste of arts to younger children, encourage them to express themselves so as to improve mutual communication, and will make the school time more interesting and attractive.
The classical arts and music is invaluable treasury of human being. With the exposure to these treasuries, young children can be edified to gain the capability to discern good things from the bad one unconsciously. When listening the music of Beethoven, or watching the Mona Lisa, young children will be guided to learn how to appreciate the wonderful works of human being, even if they may not deeply understand these great works. On the contrary, if the young boys and girls are only required to do mathematics problems, or recite the English words all day, they will loose the precious chance to know the real beauty in life.
Furthermore, training on art and music will endow children more talents, make them more confident through active communication with others. For example, when attending the music classes, young children will sit together to enjoy the music and will sing songs for others, which will effectively improve the mutual communication comparing with the training on boring math class. What's more, once the younger children learned a new song, or completed a wonder drawing, he or she may show his/her talent to the parents or relatives or other friends. The appraisal form the adult audience will also make the children proud and hence gain the confidence to speak in front of people, and more actively get in touch with others. All these virtues are important for their future career development.
The last but not least, learning art and music will improve children's learning in other academic subjects. Research result has revealed that the ability of human being to develop the math, physics and other academic subjects lies in the left part of brain, while the ability to develop art and music lies in the right side, and the development of these two sides will benefit each other. With the full development of right side of brain through the training on art and music, children will be expected to develop their left side of brain more effectively, which will in turn benefit their study in math and language and other subjects. Moreover, after all day's work on the academic study, music and art classes will give the younger children a good relax, before they can keep learning these academic classes more efficiently.
In short, training in art and music for younger school children is very important since it can bring about a good sense, encourage communication skills, and improve the academic learning. If I had the children, I would give them the chances to learn drawing or playing piano with no hesitation.
