我越来月不明白了，你们怎么都说：A use the past perfect tense distorting the original meaning, as also tamper to indicate that the great ice sheets did not exist after the propoal has been presented. 我就是不明白这句话，整个原来句子的意思是一个人提出一个假设说冰川存在于现在温暖的地区。冰川当然在他提出这个假设的时候已经不存在了，只是研究说以前的事情，所以，我才认为用past perfect tense，可是好象你们都说在propose的时候冰川好象还存在似的，
请再解释一下，我哪里理解错了，谢谢！

这句话的意思应该是说，无论在proposal提出之前和提出之后，great ice sheets都是曾经存在的。而并不是说，proposal提出之前，ice sheets过去就不存在。这是一个过去的事实，所以用existed而不是had existed。

要不要WHAT主要看它有没有包含新的信息含量或增进表达的效果。
就这个例子来说WHAT是不能少的。
existed in what are now temperate areas表达的是“存在于现在是温带地区的（地方）”，如果去掉WHAT，就是existed in temperate areas，意思显然变了。

但如果是下面的情况，WHAT就是UNNECESSARY了：
I am what is a man.

另外：这个题涉及到correctiveness和effectiveness。
A  currently和Now重复
C  where there错误
D  current temperate areas错误
E  now位置错误
