这句话的意思，是leaking its cargo of 750000 gallons into the
ocean这件事污染了环境，而an oil barge ran aground off the coast of San
Juan这件事不会。

我觉得是ing表示伴随，最好是同时发生的事情，但是这里ran around off the coast和漏油是有先后顺序的，所以用ing状语不是很恰当

我是这样理解的，船ran ground off the coast and leaked这两个动作导致的结果是污染了beach,polluting在这里做结果状语，修饰整个句子。
