我看到的答案是B,我是错选E的。
我觉得平行不是问题，although是转折，又没要求平行，B中比较的对象还是有可比性的，没有错。
E的问题大概出在the rate of people consuming fatty foods,楼上讲的有道理。

我觉得E和B中rate表达的内容不同，如果参照其他选项应该选B，但是我觉得E在语法上没错啊。。。

个人见解：
D和E在although引导的分居中，如果用the rate做主语，后面的分句比较的对象就不明确了（france到底跟哪个国家比？），因为这两个分句都是相对比较独立的了，虽然主语都是rate，但是rate的内容不一样，也不能想当然的把前一个分句rate的两个比较项当成是后一个分句的
而B，although分句中people做主语，后一个分句可以理解为the death rates （of people in France and the United States），gamt中貌似有这样的省略规律，这样的话整个句意更加清晰、明白

其实我一开始选的E。。。。。

整个句子的逻辑主语的倾向问题，这里更倾向于说人的问题，而且从后面未划线的句子来看，the death rates from heart disease，肯定是人因为心脏病而死，而不可能是fatty food，而E项中，前几位分析的比较有道理：cosuming fatty food修饰people，这时rate of就是人的比例了，这就有逻辑问题了，因为人是不可能有速率的，而在B项中，rates的修饰对象就很明确，是consume，就符合逻辑了
