To irisyeah: i thought ur algorithm for calculating admission rate is reasonable... actually.. the ad rate of Berkeley is also about 30% last year... the fundamental reason of this phenomenon is that they start programs at a terrible time, which sharply cut down the number of applicants. To zxyaa: UCLA is a good choice... i thought u will not be regret there... the bg of ppl there is attractive and u can definitely learn a lot of things there. the curriculum and faculty of UCLA is good... and after comparing the program of Berkeley with UCLA, u will find some insights... : 1. UCLA requires 52 units course study and UCB requires only 28 units... what's more, UCLA's requires a final thesis...from this aspect, if u r intended to study in Finance PhD or reserve a back door for ur future, UCLA may help u more. 2. to be continued, from the application process.. we can find what each program wants.. UCB typically requires 2 round interviews and 1 of them may be face-2-face if possible ( i am preparing for this one ).. but UCLA just asks for only 1 comprehensive and general interview... so UCB admits students totally based on whether u r basically qualified to be successful in job market...UCLA is not going to such a extend... even though from the calender UCLA sent me.. I can feel the "push" from the career service office.. but i guessed this will not be as much as UCB's 3. About faculty... I thought UCLA's faculty is fantastic.. especially after Longstaff (the designer of Longstaff-Schwaz model ) came back to UCLA.. of course.. Schwaz is also in UCLA.. so u can learn a lot from those top teachers.. and UCLA invites some Stanford professors to teach some courses... it is really cool... and from the alumni of these 2 programs, u can know the teaching of UCLA is better.. and the accessibility of UCLA's faculty is better... I do not say UCB is bad.. but for teaching part.. it asks students spending very few time in classroom so I just had some concerns of it.... and UCB's career service is somewhat better than UCLA's Besides.. from my own experiences in the US.. the brand name of UCLA and UCB is almost the same.. so there is nothing to worry about this.. if u have some preferences about campus.. i can tell u UCLA is newer than UCB... and UCB's climate may be more comfortable.... -- by 会员 alfredyuan (2010/7/12 13:56:47)
