贴一篇讨论 It seems unfair to assign the responsibility for social problems to celebrities solely on the basis of their status or resources. It is true that the more powerful people is, the more accountabilities he or she should take, in my view, however, social problems are so complex that not everyone could solve only by their status or celebrity effect, nor those public figures should be forced to address the problems that they are not good at.
Celebrities, as ordinary people, do have some social responsibility to contribute to the society, and they do have more power to draw public attentions to those problems by their popularity. However, various social problems today are derived from different social background and those celebrities have no other measures to really address such problems as environmental pollution, nuclear weapons proliferation, or terrorism but to only advertise some ideas or introduce some policies by their brandname. Consider, for instance, such famous sports stars as Kobe Bryant or Tiger Woods, who have been the ambassdars of some international non-profit organizations, either to fight against AIDS or to advertise environment-friendly measures. However, we cannot presume that they can address these complicated problems which encountered the whole world.
Even it is granted that they are capable of dealing with some of social problems, they cannot be forced to take that assigned responsibility and even be criticized by public due to the unsolved problems. Everyone in the world has their own social role. Celebrities, has no natural or regulated task to address those problems beyond their power. It is unfair to force a certain Hollywood superstar to address the AIDS problem when he or she didn’t have time or wasn’t willing to do that. They have rights to decide whatever they want on their own.
In the final analysis, it is more possible for celebrities to deal with some social problems by their relatively higher status or more resources available to them than common people. However, these problems, as mentioned above, cannot be solved simply by the status or the brand effect and the celebrities have freedom to do what they like to do. |
