我觉的E的acted应该用现在时吧。。而且if也没掉了。那个东东好像最好不要改变吧。

You mentioned "if" is replaced with "whether" in E, making the meaning of the sentence confusing. I guess this is the point!
By the way, I also think the 'acted' is incorrect, however, the  answer is A which includes "acted".
