16,'a critique' and  'a vision' make the coordination and both together are appositive of  "Essay on Heat and Light".

41, I can't agree with the standard answer E. The 'like' looks ugly.  "答案改成 like the markets of A and other metals, 偶就选E. " , I think pumkin's idea is a better one, but unfortunately it is not in the five choices.

Vision: 1. something in supernatural appearance 2.act or power of imagination 3.power of seeing.

Envision: to oneself to picture.

我觉得这里vision如果取act of imagination意思是通的

这两题我也做的跟答案不一样，我开始选的是A, C。现在我感觉第一题B好些，可能主要是following比since好，其次这里and 比 as well as好，再有his envisioning 比 a vision 意思清楚些？

第2题，对E我还有疑问：commodities such as aluminum 这个表达本身没错，从文中好像看不出有什么必要用like来比较，而且我觉得commodities of aluminum 这个表达比较怪，我查了一下，还没找到这种表达。

我想可能是这样：Humphry Davy 和Robert Boyle 都算是化学家，Robert Boyle 在前提出了他的chemistry，之后人们以此为基础有了all chemistry ，但Humphry Davy 有了一个a new chemistry，所以his essay即是对前人的一种批评，也是对自己的新想法一个想象。

这题我认为since后可能是不加人名的，至少我还没找到这种例句。
