Saw a few post asking for my reason for applying the four schools, so... let's talk about that now.

My Choice of Schools

In choosing schools, different people has different reason in their school choice, and for me, the main concerns are as follows:

1. Location: After my days at Ross, I am so sure that I cannot live without a well-connected public transportation network. (Disclaimer: No offense to UMich / Ross students and alumni, just personal preference and feeling) So i need somewhat more urban schools, New York, Chicago, London, etc. I also appreciate bigger city's opportunities in Luxury industry (my career goal).

2. Class / Alumni Size: I pursue MBA (JD-MBA) mainly because I want to build a bigger personal / professional network. So a big class and alumni size is quite important in my choice.

3. Reputation in Asia: My career is mainly built in Asian (or at least that's my plan), so attending a reputable school which is more recognized in asia is also crucial in my decision making.

And actually I have a special preference on the Kellogg JD-MBA program coz I think legal knowledge is also vital for making sound business judgments.

In conclusion, I chose the NU Law / Kellogg JD-MBA program in view of the above reasons. (Also the friendly / teamwork atmosphere too!)

Reflection:

With a brother being a Harvard JD-MBA and a cousin from another top b-school, I am very lucky to have tremendous source of information about top b-schools from years ago. In my opinion, I think research of schools is very important in determining the suitability between you and the school (program).

Hope all of you would get your top choices.
Happy Easter!!

Thanks a lot for sharing that much.
But I still don't understand why u applied those reputable financial Bschools but u finally chose Kellogg?Coz LBS/CBS/Booth could also provide u with a well-connected / personal / professional network. Maybe it's more about your special preference on legal knowledge?

btw, I totally agree with u about "research of schools is very important ".
But what if we don't have tremendous source of information like you did, what's your suggestions for us?

Thanks so much.

Haha... waterbearer, am i still not answering your question?

for the school that i chose, I did not really think about if they are "financial" or "consulting" school, actually, like what have been mentioned many times, these schools might be really reputatble in one aspect (either finance or consulting), but they are holistically having a very good faculty and program orientation. Especially for very traditional curricula like finance and consulting, near every school on the top 10 is having a comprehensive training and an impressive employment stat every year in these industries.

Hence, to be frank, I rated JD-MBA program from Kellogg over MBA from other school not because of the reputation in finance / consulting, but on the curriculum itself (being a sophisticated combination in legal and business trainings). And this course would also give me the ticket to being a corporate attorney (if i choose to pursue U.S. bar exam). MBA clearly doesnt offer the expanded career paths.

Zonia, just curious, did you say you grew up in the U.S.? Your English writings suggest otherwise (by no means attempting to sound offensive)..or you attended high school in Asia?

I wish I had the family resources you had..It would be very difficult for me to get into such a program with those stats.

yearoftiger,

i grew up in a couple of places (countries including US which i never thought might be superior or what), so now you need to check my passport and school records? i just wrote whatever come up to my mind. I'm sure there are lots of defects but i doubt if these short posts would ever suggest where i grew up... anyways, this is just a post of experience sharing (by no means a technical piece of writing).

frankly, i am offended by your comments (you fail on that "not attempting"). You never know how my life is like, working 18 hours in my profession, then study hours for CPA/CFA/CISA/CFE and manage my own businesses and charity. i speak 6 languages (not 6 chinese dialects) and got national prize on my final year research at college despite my poor GPA. stat is just one data point, and i'm not the panel(s) who made these decisions (my family did not donate anything for my seat if you meant anything about family resources).

i'm quite sure the adcom's decisions over my applications shown i got a solid package, essays and stellar interviews.
Like it or not, i'm not here for evaluations of my communication skills or competence, but to encourage those who thought they can never get a seat a top schools without stellar stats.
