NO. 34. I think the sentence can be paraphrased to “many are uninhabitable due to there small size ……” so that due to or because of can replace with by virtue of.

NO.48. I am not sure too. Anyway, I copy some of these phrases from my dictionary.

At any rate: 1. used to say that a particular fact is true in spite of what has happened in the past or what may happen in the future;

2. used to show that you are more accurate about sth That you have said;

3. used to show that what you have said is not as important as what you are going to say.

Regardless: adv. paying not attention, even if the situation is bad or there are difficulties;
