IA -> FC - CFO -> CEO?    ossible (everything is) but unlikely .... M7 -> Management leadership program / consulting -> mid/senior level management -> CEO? Again, possible but a little bit more likely ~~~ Anyway, either IA or MBA will only be the very very first step toward your goal. To me, the biggest difference is that the latter will give you many more options besides your current aspiration~ -- by 会员 Fightingman (2010/1/31 23:29:53)
At Wharton, Career Management tells us that they find that many consulting alums find it difficult to move into mid/senior level management, for one simple reason: they are specialists only at running strategy, and even then only for short projects that are quite different from a long corporate engagement. If a company wanted a marketing manager, they'll look for a marketing specialist. If they wanted a financial controller, they'll look for a banker. Only when they look for a strategy guy (and these departments tend to be very small- after all, most companies simply 'rent' the strategy work from consulting firms), is their first choice a consulting guy.
Hence they tell us that if you want to go into a corporate job, to consider carefully whether the best route to get there is through a consulting firm. |
