[老生常谈]再问个比较的问题

在比较中，我们经常省略同样的成分，保留不一样的
而经常为了避免歧义还要加上助动词，但是很多没有歧义的情况下也加上了助动词，也有时候省略助动词。。。所以我发现很多时候这个比较的助动词并不是考点，而是其他地方。。。。

这里的B中的be动词省略了，A那种加上was我认为也没有错，错只错在
national average的用法

我原来判断C是按照does来判断的，但是现在我发现即使没有does应该也是对的。请看下一个例子

Diesel engines burn as much as 30% less fuel than gasoline engines of comparable size, as well as emitting far less carbon dioxide gas and far fewer of the other gasses that have been implicated in global warming.
A.    of comparable size, as well as emitting far less carbon dioxide gas and far fewer of the other gasses that have

答案A就没有加助动词，也没有歧义说拿fuel 和 engine来比。。。。
如果按照原来的理解一定要写成
Diesel engines burn as much as 30% less fuel than gasoline engines of comparable size do

现在看的越多越清楚也越糊涂。。。大家来讨论一下吧。。

1.   142题，A错就错在那个National average，但是was补出来也没错，补不补谓语动词是看这个句子不补谓语动词的话，会不会对句子造成歧义，这个句子是主语的比较。
2.    第二个句子也是主语的比较，补不补助动词对句意没影响
3.   第三个题，谓语动词的补出实在than 之后补出的，as well as +doing是修饰成分，没有必要补出谓语动词，要是出来的的话，这里的as well as emitting far less carbon dioxide gas and far fewer of the other gasses than  gasoline engines of comparable size 后加 does，不过我还没见过修饰成分补出谓语动词的，都是主谓宾的句子，补出助动词或谓语动词。

再补充一点，从Manhattan论坛看到的，补不补出谓语动词或助动词，主要看不补出会不会有歧义，比如：
for instance:
i know more about shakespeare than my brother
is incorrect, because we don't know whether this means (1) my knowledge of shakespeare is superior to my brother's, or (2) i know more about shakespeare than i know about my own brother.

if you change this to
i know more about shakespeare than does my brother
then the ambiguity is removed.

if you have
i am taller than my brother
then you don't need "...is my brother", since there's no ambiguity to start with.

in your example, there's no such ambiguity in the first place, so you don't need the helping verb.
although it's certainly not wrong to include that verb
