Applying for Purdue U. Ph.D?

I want to know whether the admission committee at Purdue have started evaluating the PhD applicants. I have been waiting for several days, but no any updates up to now? no interview...no e-mail...

Obviously I am not the best person to answer this question as I am not a member of the committee. But I can share a wild guess and my experience with you.

My wild guess is that they haven't officially reviewed the applications yet because there are still some days left before the application deadline (am I right about this?).

I guess they wouldn't touch your application unless the system says it is a completed one. But the PhD coordinator might have begun reviewing if there are a lot of completed applications.

In my case, the "complete" message was sent to me in early March and I got an interview invitation in a few days. The unofficial offer was extended about ten days after the interview in mid-March. So I guess you can tell yourself to be patient for now. If you really heard nothing from the school or professors in April, then I'd say it is not a good sign.  Good luck!

I know strategy at Purdue is very strong. It's the home of SMJ; it's also one of my dream universities.  Now I am wondering what can I do for the application; I hope you can give me some suggestions. Many thanks!

Here is my backgroud.

本科：Fudan 2004 Business Administration, 3.73; 1/32;

研究生：Fudan 2008 accounting, at the second year.

研究：4 journal papers in China；among them an English one is closely related to my research area: corporate governance.

ibt: 30,27,22,20=99; gmat: 51,36,720;4.5

推荐：President elected of AOM; A prof. at Accounting depart; Dean of Fudan Management School; A professor of WUSTL Strategy depart.

Other universities applied: Columbia, Duke, Wustl, NYU, UNC, PSU, ASU, Indiana, Florida, Maryland, Texas A&M.

I don't know when I can get some information for my application.  I have several questions.

1. What can I do now for my application now?

2. Which one  is the weakest among those 12 universities?

3. One technical question: which software is most useful for empirical study in Strategy field? SAS?

4. When did you get the first piece of information last year?

1. If you have submitted your application, I guess there's little you can do except wait. If you still have some time, you can always try fine-tuning your essays etc. For example, I would explain why I don't want to do accouting. Accounting people are more marketable career wise. So why don't you choose the easier path? On the other hand, your background makes you unique among the applicants and might give you an edge. Corporate governance is an important topic in strategy and one of our professors published quite a few papers along this line.

2. I obviously don't know enough about the field as of this moment. With this disclaimer, I'd say I am more impressed by Gators (Florida) football than by strategic papers they publish (are there any?).

3. Many of us here at Purdue use SAS.

4. Sorry I am not sure what do you mean by "first piece of information".

In general, you seem to have done your homework before applying and I guess you look good on paper. If you have written good statement of purpose, I'd say you have a shoot at the schools you applied. Good luck!

No problem. I actually should have recommended you to prepare some interview questions and read papers by the professors if you like. I interviewed with Purdue in early March ( I gave some details in #50 above. Please check that.) I got my first phone interview from another school some time in February. It was a cold call. Help these help.

I guess if they told you that your application is a complete one then "holding for review" is normal.  I really know little about the quant professors but you might try to contact those Chinese professors. However, I suspect that they might not feel very comfortable talking about your status in private at this stage. Just a guess. Good luck!
