Hi Wapianwang,

Could you give me the contact of the current students in Accounting? I'd like to talk with them about study and life there. Thanks

I am afraid I am not very familiar with Chinese accounting students. But here's the link. You might want to contact Li Yao. I think he is in his third or fourth year. http://www.krannert.purdue.edu/programs/phd/students/student_directory.asp?page=4.

Jason Stanfield is a second year and the president of PhD student body and he is quite nice. He might be able to help you too. You can find his email with the link. Hope these helps.

Many thanks for your help. I am applying for MIS program.
I have a question. Do they prefer master background more or research experiences (publications) more?
Thank you.

I honestly don't know. But I think you don't need to worry this too much because you cannot change their previous perceptions.

The best you can do is to highlight your strengths and try to mitigate any weakness with your strengths. If you have good publications but no master's, you should be at least as competitive as those who have master's degrees, maybe even more. If you look good on your application, the professors will notice that. You might want to ask MIS current students' opinion. Good luck.

Thanks a lot . I do have publications and no master degree. And It seems that my research experiences are  better than many master applicants in Mainland China. It also seems that US master degree is preferred (Are Mainland masters and Mainland undergrads almost equally competitive  in application if they have publications?). I just make a trade-off between spending 2 years to mphil or master overseas and applying phd directly. I chose the later option.

Publications are always good to have. In your case, I guess you might want to show your research interests are in line with the professors. In other words, why a particular program is the fit for you.

Hi, I am currently studying in IIT Chicago, majored in MPA ,and will graduate this semester. I took the GMAT 3days ago, and with a score of 630. So far my GPA in MPA is 3.70. My undergraduate backgruond is finance in China, the GPA is around 3.0. Only some intership experience in China.

Two questions: Since my TOEFL is expired, would your program waive my TOEFL? How do you think the probability that I could be admited to your program of Finance.

I think the TOEFL required can be waived in your case but you need to confirm that with the admissions office. Meanwhile, I would strongly recommend you to try your best to get a 700+ GMAT. Applying for finance PhD is always very competitive and your fellow applicants usually have 700+ GMAT. Good luck.

It's really nice of you to provide us so much useful information.
I'm an applicant of Marketing PHD.
I'm a senior student in China mainland university. I only have a little research experience but no publications and no work experience. I wonder if the professors would consider it as a weakness.
