今天在UOB Center的Dome Cafe面了CBS。

面试官是个校友，华裔（似乎是台湾人ABC），本科在UC Berkeley，MBA在CBS。现在在一个专供security和compliance的软件公司做亚太的抗坝子。

约了11点，但是他很忙，迟到了15分钟，来了以后又接了个电话，似乎下属在跟他请示什么东西。
他跟我说他只有40分钟左右的时间。但是整个过程却很轻松，很conversational。

以下是他问的问题：

1. talk a bit more about your undergraduate degree.

这个是他看着我resume问的。中间他有打断我，我也有反打断他，整个就是非常conversational，不像个面试。

2. talk about your career progress. 然后他看到我的resume，很惊讶的说 oh, i didn't know you only worked for two years. （以前我们在info session见过面，当时聊了好一会儿，后来我还有陶瓷）

so i talked about the two roles that i have had with my current company. the challenges i faced and the scope of the jobs. 然后他有插话，比如我提到structured products，他就想了解具体什么样的structured products （他以前似乎做过trader）。于是来了个finance 101，还聊到CDO, equity-linked notes 和carry trade。

3. your career goal.

我就谈到我long term的VC的goal，以及这个goal是怎么慢慢crystallized的。同时谈了我对大环境，VC和biotech industry的认识（我打算focus在biotech）他听了我的见解似乎很满意，说很好不错，我认识一个很牛的北京哥们和我一届的，现在在fountainvest，我可以给你他的联系方式你可以问他一些问题。我赶紧把他说的写下来。

4. what other schools have you applied for.

挺惊讶他这么早就问这个问题的。于是我很坦诚的告诉他，我还申请了chicago duke 和NYU. 他问我为什么没申wharton，我说我对他们的essay和deadline都不是很comfortable。他对chicago很感兴趣，说没和chicago的人打过太多交道。还问我他们的info session是什么样子，他们singapore的campus什么样，校友去的多不多之类的。问的我很囧，他看到了连忙说 don't worry i'm just curious. 我起初还担心他会问我会选择chicago还是cbs。可看上去他是自动assume我会选cbs了，对cbs的brand非常自信。同时他似乎很鄙视NYU，觉得和CBS根本不是一个档次的。。。

5. what do you think is the difference between chicago and columbia.

我天南海北的瞎扯了一通。感觉他问这个问题的目的不是面试，而是他真的想知道，完全出于好奇。

6. why columbia.

我谈到了一些个人的经历，又设法扯回到我career goal去了。
7. an example that you demonstrated leadership.

我讲了我工作上的例子，他看上去非常impressed，然后围绕我举得例子又问了一大堆问题。

8 ethical dilemma

我讲了工作上的例子。他听了也觉得很满意，说i'm impressed by your interpersonal skills.

9.  what is your immediate goal upon graduation.

我说equity research focusing on biotech.

10. any backup plan if your immediate goal can't be realized?

我说可以去做consulting，再差也至少可以去一些医药公司。然后我说我对CBS的reputation绝对有信心。

然后他时间就差不多到了，（我看他不停的有短信进来）然后他让我问他问题。我问他how has the CBS brand helped you differently in different stages of you career so far.

他大体的回答是CBS是一个elite school，所以顶级的公司都会给你interview。如果你去例如UCLA之类的school，这些顶级公司你也能进去，不过你have to be an outlier.
后来工作越久，学校的影响就越浅。不过他还是surprised now and then how much weight the columbia brand carries. it has helped to open a lot of doors.
他大概聊了六七分钟他的经历，总结就是说哥伦比亚给人一个非常好的credential。

面试于是就结束了。他看上去非常满意，我们聊得也很对的上频率，比之前和chicago校友的面试感觉好多了。

他末了说了一堆夸奖和鼓励的话，然后说i hope you will get in.

号外：

1、咖啡厅的setting让整个面试更加轻松。chicago是在校友办公室，自然就肃穆庄严不少。。。
2、他对CBS的魅力和实力非常有自信。但也很看得起chicago，不大看得起NYU（当时info session就很坦率的说他觉得NYU比CBS和chicago差一个档次），根本就没提duke。。
3、他跟我说interview大概有40%的人拿到offer，不过不知道他的信息准不准。

My background is very simple. I studied bioengineering as undergrad major in singapore and then moved to banking for my first job. I graduated in 2007 and so far has only worked for one bank. I've been singapore for 7 years and 09Dec09 (the interview date) is the 7th anniversary

Thanks. It did felt better than chicago but I know opinions are not facts--it might just be my false confidence. Ai...
