I will be conducting a coffee chat for five prospective students in Beijing on January 13, at 6pm. I will not just be talking about Wharton, but also my impression of the other business schools, business schoollife in general, and anything else you want to talk about. Interested parties will have to answer the following two questions, and I will choose the five based on your answers. I am doing this to choose the five students whom I believe will benefit the most from the coffee chat.
Keep your answers to 500 words (although this is NOT like a b-school essay, I don't need you to use all 500 words). Please email answers to me at jason.teo.wg10(在) gmail.com. Paste your answers directly into the email (no attachments).
1) What questions will you want to ask at the coffee chat, that could benefit you and also the others at the chat? (they don’t have to be related only to Wharton) Why do you think these questions are important?
2) What do you look for when thinking about ‘fit’ with a school? Why do you look for these factors?
I will be holding this coffee chat in a public coffee house, and will send the five chosen students the location. Because the coffee house needs to do business, I expect all attendees to make a purchase at the shop.
PS, there will be other Wharton student events over December and January as well. If you'd rather not take the time to answer these questions, you will still be able to go for those instead.
what's so funny? Lz is just volunteering his own time to help and hope to achieve his goal most efficiently. I guess he may also post the chat history here well~~ I would love to participate if i am in BJ...
I'm not doing this to be efficient. The most efficient thing is for me not to do it at all, and just write an essay for everyone to read. As I mentioned above, I am trying to choose the 5 people whom will benefit most from the type of coffee chat that I want to have. Specifically, I am planning to have an honest, sincere discussion of what it means to go to business school and how you should choose a school. I chose the questions to reflect this- notice I don't ask for your career goal, for your work experience, for your GMAT, for your resume, for your TOEFL, etc. None of that matters nor is relevant for what I'm looking for.
Not everyone is interested in a discussion like that. Some people have already decided and already understand that they want to go to business school and perhaps Wharton in particular, and want to understand how to write 'why Wharton' for the essays. That's perfectly fine, but there are many, many other ways to get this information. There is Wharton's website, my own thread (Ask Jason@沃顿), Wharton's S2S, the other alumni events this summer... and so on. If that is your primary goal, feel free to explore these other avenues instead, I think you will find them a better use of yours and the other participants' time.
I look forward to having a good discussion with 5 of you
Jason
PS, I continue to take questions here. Feel free to ask anything. http://forum.chasedream.com/North_American_MBA/thread-373667-34-1.html?extParms=ThreadCatalogID%3d15%26page%3d1
