You better try a few more because it give you more chances. You have to write at least one research proposal anyway. You can try the top schools if you research proposal is innovative and good enough. You must have pretty much idea of who is doing what in the field, try to have some understanding of each professor's specialism and talk to them to find out. It can be some academic discussion not immediately related to doctoral positions. Some professional qualification can compensate the deficiency of not coming from a very top school and also where's the GMAT... If Waterloo is funding you, you have pleny of time... and Good Luck. -- by 会员 段譽 (2009/11/14 4:01:42)
Thanks for you comment. I did not take GMAT, I only took GRE. GRE is so far so good for the schools I am applying, except Rochester. BTW, by professional qualification you mean CFA or something? I was on SOA track before, not sure if it's worth a mention. I can actually get funding from waterloo, but I made a unwise choice of graduating immediately after degree completion. So now I am laid off at home, full-time applicant...I should have extended one semester. I thought 10-13 schools would be typical for Ph.D application (now I feel it might be different for finance phd). I was taking 17 schools into my list, and I thought that was a lot. But now, seems I need to increase the odds based on a large pool. So you suggest >20 schools? Thanks again for your help. |
